User :   I keep getting a strep-throat like infection after giving oral sex to a male and anal oral sex to a male - what gives? and is there anything I can do ahead of time to prevent it? mouthwash? wash his parts with purell? take a pennicillan before I do it?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   45
User :   typical partner is 20-26 male
Doctor :   Sorethroat is a sign of infection.
Doctor :   Washing the genital or mouth wash can reduce the chances of infections, but cannot completely prevent it.
Doctor :   You can use barrier methods to prevent these infection from occurring.
User :   yeah, i kinda knew that - but that usually just doesn't work, removes the fun completely, thats why I was looking for another way.
Doctor :   since the infections spreads through contact, using oral antiseptics may not completely help.
User :   what if I took a penicillan 2-3 hours before sex and then another 4 hours later - (as long as I know I'm not already comming down with something else - as I understand the risks of not taking a complete 10 day course of anti-biotics)
Doctor :   And you also need to watch out for sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, clamydia, and syphillis and viral infections too.
Doctor :   The effectiveness of the antibiotics as preventive medications is not known, hence I cannot comment if they would help in preventing the disease or the infections completely.
Doctor :   More over, they may not be effective at all, incase the infection is a viral, such as herpes or HPV.
Doctor :   It can only be prevented by the use of barrier and treated with the help of antiviral drugs.
Doctor :   Do you follow what I am saying?
User :   is it possible that I've constantly got strep in my throat - and i'm getting some minor physical damage in my throat thats letting the strep get into my blodd in my throat?
User :   yes - so far i understand everything u r saying
Doctor :   Streptococcal infections can occur on an intact mucosa also, however, damaged mucosa are more susceptible to the infective organisms.
Doctor :   They can be treated completely and any damages are replaced.
Doctor :   Do you follow what I have suggested?
Doctor :   Do you have any further query?
User :   yes - let me finish reading - i had to recharge - one moment please
User :   its frustrating as I have several friends who do this all the time and never get a bad sore throat with high fever.
Doctor :   Do you any other medical conditions such as diabetes?
User :   pennecillin seems to always work at killing it though - but my doctor and would FREAK OUT if I told him how I caught it - so I have to always act like its strep throat again - which he thinks it is anyhow - even tho he never tests
User :   no other condition
Doctor :   A few people are prone to get recurrent infections, especially if there have an reduced immunity levels.
Doctor :   you would need evaluations to see if you have associated conditions.
User :   I think I'm pretty good at fighting infection, whenever I come down with a cold - I use Zycam and cold-ease the very 1st second I feel it comming on - and it is usually gone in 2 days max
Doctor :   the recurrent infections are also common, if you have other associated conditions such as a reflux gastritis, associated nose and throat infections such as tonsillitis.
Doctor :   You would need these evaluations to see if they are the cause for the recurrent infections>
User :   ok, so a barrier is best method - problem is - my partner touches his penic with the barrier - and if we are in a motel - his hands are impossible to keep clean - if he touches anything at all in there - so then he infects the OUTSIDE of the barrier - which my mouth goes onto
User :   the anniligus I can just stop doing - don't do it that often and last couple times I got strep - not sure from anal or from the penis tho
User :   also - I had tonsils taken out when i was 5
User :   I did have a hepitus vaccin - not sure if it was a or b - but told that it is ALWAYS both at same time
Doctor :   You can modify the condom an use the same as an application to the mouth.
User :   true
Doctor :   These are now available for the preventing the oral infections.
User :   i'll have to search for them
User :   for the most part - unless it's a viral infections - is it likely that the pennicilin or amoxicilan would kill most all the bacteria I'm likely to get from oral sex?
User :   as far as varieties of bacteria not qauntity
Doctor :   Yes.
User :   like - most of the bacterial std's associated with the anus and penis?
Doctor :   Penicillin are effective against almost all oral infections, provided you do not develop resistance.
User :   well, at least THANK GOD for that!
User :   does a PERSON develope resistance - or do the bacteria develop resistance?
Doctor :   The bacteria develops resistance.
Doctor :   This can occur it you are on penicillins for a long period of time.
Doctor :   And more commonly due to unwanted use.
Doctor :   That is the reason why prophylactic usage(for prevention) is not recommended.
User :   ok,,, so if the current infection dies in me, then its not resistant - so even tho I've been on amoxicillin like 25 times - as long as whatever bacteria in me is DEAD and GONE when I stop taking it - then I'm no more resistant than if i didn't take any at all?
User :   ok - I see why it would be bad to take a couple before and after - because if I did get an infection the 2 tabs didn't kill, by the time the infection got sysmptoms - it would be resistant to the pennicillin
User :   or at least could be somewhat resistant
User :   well, I think I'm going to take clean sheets with me to the motel, my neither he or I can host in our house, and both of us will wash and sanitise our hands before we get onto the sheets, then I'll wash his genital areas with purell, and use antiseptic mouthwash before and after - (for the times when I can't use a barrier) - this shouls all go a long way toward stopping infection - shouldnt it? or would it be futile?
Doctor :   Since you say, the penicillin is effective in treating the condition, it probably means that the chances of resistance is unlikely.
User :   ok good
Doctor :   However, one requires a culture and sensitivity test on the swab collected to suggest that.
User :   its a shame - non-doctors can't buy those little mouth HIV test kits - even though - I KNOW it takes 6 months to know if you have HIV - I'd still use protection for that type of sex - but if it came out POS then I wouldn't have ANY sex at all -
User :   with that partner
Doctor :   It's important to know the immunity status of the partner(HIV and other sexual infections).
Doctor :   This is a part of safe sex.
Doctor :   I would suggest you to avoid sexual relationship with one who's status is unknown, if possible.
Doctor :   Or atleast use the help of barriers.
User :   well, for penetration I always use protection of condoms - but not always with oral sex
Doctor :   If you cannot get the barrier which can be applied to the oral mucosa, you can alteast use the condoms.
User :   how does the mouth barrier fit in/on your mouth? can I google it?
Doctor :   It is recommended that use the condom for all type of sex.
User :   ok. I'll try to start using one more oten for sure... and - so what percentage of protect would all the sanitizing do in your honest GUESS - as I typed above - with staying on clean sheets - not touching anything else in room etc.
Doctor :   It can prevent the infections by 50 to 70%.
Doctor :   That may be.
