I've had a headache for the last few days (between and above my eyes.) I've taken Sudafed but it hasn't really done much. What's really concerning me now is that for the last two days, whenever I eat something, the roof of my mouth hurts. The pain is so bad that I have to stop eating until it goes away (usually within 5 minutes.) When I'm not eating, my palette feels fine. Even though I've had a headache for about 5 days now, the mouth pain is new..........I'm also feeling slight pressure around my jaw and ears.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me read ur query
Doctor :   the severe pain in the oral cavity could be sue to stress ulcers in the oral cavity
Doctor :   they are very common in this age
User :   I don't see any sores on the roof of my mouth. Also, it just came on all of a sudden yesterday morning when I was eating (very severe pain.).......
Doctor :   they can be treated with topical ointments like Anbesol (available at walmart,
Doctor :   do the spots hurt when u touch the spots causing pain ?
User :   No, there aren't any spots. The roof of my mouth looks like there's nothing wrong. It's only when I eat that I get intense pain.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   it is very unsual to have such pain
Doctor :   have u got any blood tests done ?
User :   Not recently.
Doctor :   you can get a routine blood work, ESR, urinalysis done , to detect any inflammatory disorder
Doctor :   in addition, taking ibuprofen or advil for managing the pain would be helpful
User :   I did have routine blood work done a couple of months ago.
Doctor :   also, as i earlier mentioned, apply anbesol cream in the oral cavity for the pain
Doctor :   the blood work done months ago, does not help at this moment
User :   Could this have anything to do with sinuses?
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   sinus infections do not present in this way
User :   what's an inflammatory disorder?
Doctor :   conditions like inflammatory bowel disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, etc
User :   that can affect your palette?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   they can cause generalised inflamatory signs and symptoms
Doctor :   but most common are due to stress ulcers also called apthous ulcers,
Doctor :   they are very benign and widely common, and present in stressful situations
User :   What about the constant headache? Could they be related? BTW, this all started after an extreme tennis workout (for 4 plus hours straight.) I went to eat a couple of hours later and that's when I started to have the mouth pain..............
User :   Would a stress ulcer be visible on the inside of your mouth?
Doctor :   yes, such stressful situations, workouts can cause such painful issues, and headache can be associated with any inflammation in the head, neck and oral cavity
Doctor :   yes, they can be visible
User :   I don't see anything sort of sores or anything.
Doctor :   even in that case, following the above steps and using the above OTC medications will relieve your symptoms
Doctor :   and pain
User :   should I see a doctor? ENT or GP?
Doctor :   if the pain does not subside, with the above measures, if the situation worsens and u develop fever, body pain, etc, then you might see a doctor
User :   Any thoughts as to why I have pain only when I eat?
Doctor :   but until then, you can take some rest and just apply the ointment and take oral NSAIDs
Doctor :   this is because, there are some sensitive inflammed lesions in the oral cavity, which get irritated by food, and cause pain
User :   can it come on all of a sudden? Have you ever heard of another situation like mine?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   they can appear all of a sudden , especially after episodes of severe stress, illness, or trauma
User :   and you can have pain without seeing any visible sores?
Doctor :   yes, you can
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   yes, just thinking if there's anything else...
Doctor :   you need not be worried about this
Doctor :   it is a very transient condition, that will resolve itself within a weeks time
User :   okay, thank you
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   Is there anything else i can help u with ?
User :   no thank you
Doctor :   take care and have a good evening
Doctor :   bye for now
