User :   Hi i am insulin resistant and on metformin and i want to lose weight I stick to a low carbohydrate diet however never lose any weight except when I get into ketosis. I am on 1500 mg of metformin daily however struggle to take it on such low carbs as I appear to get low blood sugar and feel sick and faint. Yesterday my blood sugars where at 4.7mmol/l and I exercise and felt faint today I am at 5.7 still low carb and no ketosis. What blood level should I be at to enter ketosis
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   I am
Doctor :   Do you mean the blood sugar level to enter the ketosis?

Doctor :   Helloa re you with me?
Doctor :   Please answer
Doctor :   You have to keep your blood sugars under 6.0 mmol/ lt
Doctor :   Ketosis is a condition when blood glucose is not under control
User :   atkins diet I am not diatbetic or insulin dependant i am just restricting carbs to under 20g per day and want to enter ketosis but cant and wondering if by blood reading should be lower have difficulty with your send button
Doctor :   Ok

User :   i think I have got the knack now sorry
Doctor :   Actually on diet cannot get you into ketosis
User :   restricing carbs to 20g or less a day if I can I take metformin but still dont show any ketones in blood or urine and lose no weight
Doctor :   It is a myth to lose weight by showing ketones in the blood or urine
Doctor :   In fact you go into serous complications doing so
Doctor :   You have to see a Dietitian and go on proper exercise regimen
Doctor :   for losing weight
Doctor :   That is the way forward
Doctor :   and not on such diet which can deteriorate
Doctor :   You may choose the diet plan option here
