Doctor:Good Evening
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:i had consulted you before when i was suffering from diarrhea
Doctor:Yes. I remember.
User:you had prescribed me nutroline b
User:nd it dint get cured in 2 days
User:so went to a physician
User:he had suggested me Zenflox oz
User:nd after 2 days
Doctor:Ok. He started on antibiotic.
User:my friend got diarrhea
User:we had had some food together
User:so right now she is taking the same medicine
User:so my query
User:how many should we continue to have this?
User:if we stop in between will it come back?
Doctor:You mean to say, how many days?
User:how many days
Doctor:Antibiotic course is usually given for 5 days.
Doctor:It gets resolved within one to two days.
User:and i read somewhere that side effect of zenflox oz as diarrhea
Doctor:Still, you have to continue the antibiotic for 5 days, so that there is no resistance developed within your body to that antibiotic.
Doctor:You have read it correctly.
User:so will that affect me?
Doctor:Almost all antibiotics are known to have a side effect of diarrhoea.
Doctor:I will give you a brief idea, how it happens.
Doctor:It probably will not affect you.
Doctor:Antibiotics work in two ways.
Doctor:Either by killing the bacteria or by deactivating it.
Doctor:Nowadays most of the antibiotics available kill the bacteria.
Doctor:So when you take an antibiotic, it kills the bacteria which is causing you the problem.
Doctor:Along with it, it also kills the normal beneficial bacteria which is present in your intestines.
Doctor:They are called Lactobacillus, which helps in proper digestion of the food you take.
User:tha's why he has suggested me VSL#3 also?
Doctor:That is the same reason why I had given you a Probiotic called Nutrolin B.
User:and one more question
User:Doctor had prescribed me OFLIN O tablet which came in a brown colur packet. I had this tablet for 2 days. When i went to the drug store to get it again they gave me zenflox oz. are they same?
User:will this cause an issue if i now start having Zenflox oz?
Doctor:They both are the same. It is just the difference in their brand name. The content is same Ofloxacin + Ornidazole.
Doctor:So, it would not cause any issue.
User:That is all doctor..
User:Thank you so much..
Doctor:Hope I have cleared all your concerns.
User:one more query
Doctor:Is there anything else I can help you on?
Doctor:Sure, please proceed.
User:how will i develop resistance towards antibiotic if i dont continue it for 5 days
Doctor:Let me explain.
Doctor:Imagine you have a bacterial load of 5000 bacteria.
Doctor:You take a tablet of Zenflox Oz
Doctor:It will kill say around 50% of the bacteria.
Doctor:But the remaining 2500 are also exposed to the medication.
Doctor:But could not get enough of the medicine to kill them.
Doctor:So when you take the next tablet, it will kill some of them.
Doctor:Still some will remain.
Doctor:Now, if you stop the medicine, there will be some bacteria which has been exposed to the medicine, but not killed.
Doctor:They will modify themselves genetically, so that they do not get harmed by the same medicine again.
Doctor:That is called development of resistance.
User:so these genetically modified bacterial will harm us again
Doctor:So those bacteria which developed resistance , when producing more of bacteria, will all be resistant to that medicine.
Doctor:In case, if these strain of bacteria attacks you some other time, the same medicine will not be enough to cure the disease then.
Doctor:You will need a different antibiotic to treat.
User:yeah i got it..
Doctor:Have you followed the explanation?
User:Tahnk u so much..
Doctor:in general, imagine you becoming resistant to say 15- 20 antibiotics during different times.
Doctor:When you get a infection later, we will need a high end antibiotic then.
Doctor:that is the reason to avoid antibiotics unless necessary.
Doctor:And when it is used, it has to be used to its full course.
Doctor:Hope I could explain it to you in simple terms.
Doctor:If you did not understand any part, I can guide you better.
User:Thank you very much..
Doctor:Is there anything else I could help you on?
User:that all..
Doctor:Thanks for giving me an opportunity to brush up my basic knowledge.
User:HAve a nice eveninh
User:Thank u..
Doctor:You too have a nice evening.
Doctor:You are welcome.
Doctor:Bye for now.
