User :   My husband (30 year old) went in with malaise, fatigue, blurred vision, confusion, etc... BP was high (144/98). Doc took blood. Week later, blood came back high cholesterol and high red blood cell count. Doc took more blood for follow up. Tell husband she'll "call with the blood test results Monday (tomorrow), and he should come in and see her again in 6 months." Shouldn't she be more aggressive with high BP AND high red blood in a young man?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
let me read
User :   HI
User :   thankx
Doctor :
what was the cholesterol levels ?
User :   Looking for the paper
User :   I know it was over 200
Doctor :
Doctor :
and what about the red cell counts?
User :   56
User :   no... that's a 9....59
Doctor :
Doctor :   may i know the height and weight of your husband
User :   he is 5'10 and 279 pounds
Doctor :
279 pounds is high for his hight
User :   very high.
Doctor :   what was the recent bp reading?
User :   His diet is terrible, never exercises
User :   and I don't think he is likely to change his lifestyle, which is why I am so worried.
User :   it was 155 over 98
Doctor :
for the weight he is, the heart requires to pump the blood at high pressures so that it reaches to all parts of the body
Doctor :
so only the Bp is high
Doctor :
and the medications will not help him much what is required is the reduction in the weight
User :   So the red blood cell count will go down and the blood pressure, if he loses weight? But if he doesn't...
Doctor :
if he doesent reduce the weight the bp keeps on increasing and the heart gets weaker as it requires to pump at high pressure
User :   Crud. and the fatigue and headaches will get worse?
Doctor :
Doctor :
if he is not changing the life style and eating pattern it is trouble fro him ahead
User :   It's trouble right now...he is sleeping about 14 to 16 hours a day. He slept through when he was supposed to pick up our son from school.
User :   Found it. Cholesteral was 275
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :
it is also high as he is obese it will be
Doctor :
medications can be started to reduce the cholesterol but before starting the medications liver function tests need to be done
User :   While he is losing weight (if he does) will it help him to get rid of the headaches and so forth to give blood? Lower his BP a bit?
Doctor :
reduction in weight will have cumulative effect
User :   Ok.
Doctor :   it not only reduces the bp it will improve his alertness, mood get rid of tiredness, etc
User :   Any other advice? Things I should look out for or "tricks" to get him to reduce?
Doctor :   for some body to reduce weight what is required is constant motivation
User :   Oh.. he's SOL then.
Doctor :
if you can do that he will definitely reduce the weight in 3 to 4 months and you can see the improvement of his general health
User :   Ok. It looks like I've really got my work cut out for me. Thanks for your help!
User :   Shoudl he go on low dose aspirin?
Doctor :
if the platelets are too sticky and if there is evidence of thrombus formation than only he should go for asprin
User :   Ok.
Doctor :   i believe the doc has taken blood for this tests
User :   Is that what the 2nd test is for? He didn't ask
User :   he never asks doctors anything
Doctor :   you can discuss this with his doc regarding this
Doctor :
and find out what is he planning for him
User :   can't.. I'm never there at the same time
