User :   Hello,My Girlfriend has a bizarre problem and none of the doctors in .. can seem to figure it out. The problem is that her body is numb, completely from her stomack up to her breasts, and recentlly it has been moving up ward towards her face. She said that at the beginning of this problem that she did have some heart pains but never went in for that. She also twitches all night, many times keeping her awake and sometimes even in the day. A recent new condition that has just appeared is numbness in the face, but it comes and goes. XXXXXXXX is her name, and she has multiple tests done, 2 brain scans, 2 cat scans, 1 mri, lots of blood work, the doctors has poked her and found that she really does not feel anything on her stomack. One doctor said that she had Depression, ha ha, I have manic depression/bipolar. She is functional and able to get things done, unlike me. I want to bring her to the best hospital that can find the answer to her problem. She is starting to lose hope and gets sad thinking that she is dying. Has anyone heard of full body numbness with twitching? What can I do to help her? Thank you very much for your time and cooperation.
Doctor :   hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. Please give me sometime to read through what you have typed
User :   ok
Doctor :   has she had a neurologist evaluation done?
User :   yes
Doctor :   was nerve conduction studies done for her?
Doctor :   what was the neurologist opinion?
User :   the neurologist does not know what is causing the numbness and told her that he does not know of anything more to do
Doctor :   has she had her hormones tested?
Doctor :   does she suffer from anxiety?
User :   in the blood yes
Doctor :   were thyroid hormones tested? if yes, were they found to be normal?
User :   those were normal
Doctor :   does she suffer from anxiety?
User :   she does not suffer from anxiety
Doctor :   ok
User :   but i do
Doctor :   the brain can react differently to stress, depression and anxiety
User :   I have been finding that out myself, but she is able to think, and comprehend and has no stress
Doctor :   and the neurological symptoms can vary
Doctor :   since her symptoms are in stomach and chest, the nerve conduction studies at these level will help
User :   they were looking for tumors and white spots on the brain, but they found nothing out of the normal
Doctor :   ok. did they do a whole spine MRI?
Doctor :   if yes, what did the study show?
User :   yeah those are the main spors
User :   the whole spine MRI showed everything is ok
Doctor :   did it show any spurs or impingement on nerve roots supplying the stomach and chest area
User :   no, we were expecting a answer to come out from the test, but the doctor said everything is ok, and this is from 2 different doctors
User :   she is going to have a thorasic spine mri tommorrow
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   were nerve conduction studies done for her?
Doctor :   was CSF analysis done for her? (CSF=cerebrospinal fluid)
User :   To my knowledge, no. I have also requested a electrical spine test
Doctor :   ask her doctor to do a cervical spine MRI too to look for any causes there since the numbness affects her lower than this level
User :   the CSF would require a spinal tap right?
Doctor :   also discuss about getting these two tests done
Doctor :   it will show if there is any abnormality in nerve conduction causing the numbness
Doctor :   or if there is any CSF related cause that is causing her such promblems
User :   does the csf require a spinal tap
Doctor :   does the problem persists throughout the day? or does any particular activity or time brings it on?
Doctor :   yes CSF will require a spinal tap
Doctor :   was any spinal canal stenosis shown in the previous MRI's?
User :   she is numb all day, and the numbness in the face comes and goes
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   discuss about the further tests with her treating doctor
Doctor :   is the sensation of touch and pain normal in these areas or it has diminished over time?
User :   I definately will, the doctor will probably fight me, but I will do everything I can to get the tests done
Doctor :   ok. you can also take a second opinion from our panel specialists and proceed further with her treatment
User :   the numbness is growing all over body at a medium rate
Doctor :   you can send her previous reports copy to us at YYYY@YYYY
Doctor :   and we will forward to our specialist if you want to have a look
User :   I will ask for them from the doctor
Doctor :   WWW.WWWW.WW Doctor :   WWW.WWWW.WW [push]
Doctor :   you can visit this link to opt for a second opinion from our panel specialists
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   no, do you by any chance know if this website allows me to keep the remaining time?
Doctor :   no, I am sorry, you will not able to keep your remaining time, it will expire after the time limit is over.
User :   ok, thank you for all your help and advice
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now. please chat with our doctors 24/7 for your medical queries
Doctor :   you can also discuss with the treating doctors about damage to small unmyelinated nerve fibers which also causes similar symptoms
Doctor :   and ask if she can be started on Vitamin-B-12 and thiamine supplements to help in recovery for the nerve damage.
User :   I will definately do so
Doctor :   if there is damage to small unmyelinated nerve fibers, it will not show up on MRI or EMG
User :   hmmm, that would be interesting
Doctor :   there are other specialized tests to get it found out
Doctor :   so discuss about the same with her treating doctor
Doctor :   if she gets better with the vitamin suppliment and thiamine supplements
Doctor :   it would mean that the symptoms was due to the damage to small nerves
Doctor :   and these should be continued until she gets fully recovered
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yes
Doctor :   discuss theses points with her doctor and see what can be found out as cause for her symptoms
Doctor :   and proceed with treatment
