Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
User :   I was just talking to you about the GERD surgery and the Lap Nissen
Doctor :   yeah
Doctor :   i remember
User :   My age is 24 weight 225 height 6 ft 2
Doctor :   do you have symptoms like cough, heartburn more often ?
User :   I wanted to know if the Lap NIssen Surgery was a good idea or not. I read a lot of horror stories on the internet.
User :   No I have never had heartburn
User :   or cough
Doctor :   if you do not have much symptoms and also can feel better with medications like antacids, and acid reducing medications , the need for surgery would be less
User :   I had nausea and real bad bloating and abdominal pain. I was always real full. Never had any of this until 9 months ago. Why would the doctor opt for surgery right away?
Doctor :   are u taking any medications as of now ?
Doctor :   like prilosec or antacids ?
User :   no, not since august. I was on dexilant
Doctor :   are your symptoms controlled
User :   It flared up all summer. And I went in for all of the test and A hiatal hernia was present and she said there was irritation with some cellular changes. I took the medicine and my problems seemed to go away. I had a flare up again in late august and have really not had anything since then.
Doctor :   presence of a large hiatal hernia, along with pathological cell changes , may be helped with surgery
User :   Would lap nissen be offered if it wasn't absolutely necessary?
Doctor :   no, since you have developed changes in the dilated upper stomach along the herniated site, a surgery will be helpful
Doctor :   it is unlikely that a doctor would offer you a unwanted surgery
User :   is the recovery to this surgery have better outcomes then the people blogging on the internet
User :   It seems most people blogging have nothing but bad things to say about this surgery
Doctor :   it depends on each patients situation , and why the surgery did not help them
Doctor :   it cannot be mentioned that, a surgery not useful to one, will not be useful to a pateint who actually needs it
Doctor :   you can consult with your doctor, and then decide the pros and cons and then take your own decision about the procedure
Doctor :   i hope this helps
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   bye for now
