User :   I am breastfeeding and have a tender little bump on the areola, the area is not red. can you tell me what you think this is and how to treat it.

User :   it is really painful to breastfeed. is there anything i can do to ease the pain?
Doctor :   those are modified sebaceous glands which produce oily secretions to keep the nipple lubricated
User :   is there anything to do reduce the pain while breastfeeding?
Doctor :   Massaging the gland will express the secretions and make it less tense
User :   ok. should i also put warm compresses or put it in salt water?
Doctor :   warm compresses will help
Doctor :   do not apply any creams as they can affect the baby
User :   when the baby sucks on the nipple it almost feels like sharp pains through the nipple that normal?
Doctor :   yes, it is normal
Doctor :   but if there is too much discomfort consult a gynecologist to get examined in detail
User :   it is also tender to touch and the pain waxes and wanes when something touches it. how long does it take for this to usually resolve and is there anything else you recommend?
Doctor :   since how long are you breast feeding ?
User :   6 weeks but it just started being painful about a week ago
Doctor :   ok, it will take time may be a month
Doctor :   til then if the pain is more you can take pain killers like
Doctor :   IBUPROFEN 400mg once a day

User :   ok thank you but i should continue to breastfeed if i can tolerate it right
