User :   My friend has an iron deficiency, and whenever she takes Midol for her cramps she gets seemingly high. Is taking the Midol dangerous for her?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here
Doctor :   let me read what you have typed
User :   Hi!
Doctor :   Midol is given for menstrual cramps to calm down the painful contraction of the uterus.
Doctor :   it can have a mild sedative effect making the person feel weak
Doctor :   what symptoms does she have after taking Midol?
Doctor :   is she on Iron supplements for the Iron deficiency? when was her last blood work-up done?
User :   she does take iron supplements. I'm not sure when her last blood work was done.
Doctor :   what symptoms does she have after taking Midol?
User :   When she takes the Midol she is not herself, she becomes extremely hyper and loopy... i imagine what she would act like if she were high.
Doctor :   ok. then it would be due to teh effects of the drug contained in Midol
Doctor :   she should consider reporting to her gynecologist and gettinmg an alternative prescribed
Doctor :   was Midol given to control her cramps alone or control her bleeding too?
User :   Just for cramps, I believe.
Doctor :   if the side effects are getting bothersome, then option to start on birth control pills or hormonal pills need to looked into to control the bleeding and also the cramps.
Doctor :   have you followed what I said?
User :   My friend doesn't have good health insurance so a trip to the gynocologist isn't really an option. I'm more concerned about whether or not the drug contained in Midol could actually harm her in the long run (besides the temporary high) due to her iron deficiency.
Doctor :   then let her take help from the 'free clinics'
Doctor :   that take care of medical needs of people without insurance
Doctor :   she can meet a gynecologist there
Doctor :   and proceed with further work-up and alternate prescription
Doctor :   to control her symptoms
