I seem to have a very mild case of elbow bursitis, no pain at all, just noticed the "popeye" look and felt the fluid-filled sac yesterday. Taking Motrin, doesn't seem to make a difference. I am now afraid to do weight lifting exercises, even 15 lbs. for fear I will make it worse. If it doesn't hurt, how long should I wait to see a doctor and can I do upper body strength exercises in the meantime? I am 55, excellent health, athletic and never had this problem before, not prone to sports injuries.
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :   Dr here
Doctor :   Please give me a minute to read your post
Doctor :   Since when do you have the pain in the elbow ?
User :   I have NO pain, just the appearance of bursitis. it's slightly tender when I press on the sac, but really no pain at all, and no redness.
Doctor :   ok, since when did you notice the swelling ?
Doctor :   and the tenderness ?
User :   About 36 hours ago
User :   Yes, same, 36 hours
Doctor :   ok, i think its at its start,
Doctor :   it is known to evolve by 2 to 3 days
Doctor :   you can arrest its progress by noninflammatory drugs like NSAIDS but better one than Motrin
User :   If not Motrin, what do you suggest would be better? Aleve?
Doctor :   that will do but its seemingly more powerful drug
Doctor :   you can keep it as a reserve
Doctor :   but now try with Tab Diclofenac 50 mg twice a day after food
Doctor :   if the condition do not resolve then you can go for ALEVE
User :   OK, thanks, anything else I should do? Is this drug available without prescription? Also, should I avoid all weight lifting?
Doctor :   ALEVE 250mg twice daily after food
Doctor :   Yes the Tab DICLOFENAC is an OTC
Doctor :   try these for not more than 5 days if it does not come down consult an orthopedician
Doctor :   and i advise strict rest along with the medication
Doctor :   any strain on the joint can worsen the situation
User :   Thank you! (Can I assume that I can workouts that do not involve the joint -- ie walking on treadmill, squats, that sort of thing)
Doctor :   yes for sure,
Doctor :   works involving elbow should be avoided
Doctor :   is there anything i can help you with ?
User :   No, this was very helpful Thanks so much!
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me, kindly provide your feedback
Doctor :   Byre for now
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   BYE*
