User :   do you normally perform first a basic/general check up and then more detailed depending on patients symptoms?
Doctor :   Yes, initially we do a basic general check up and they largely depend on sex, age, symptoms & signs. In Particular cases
Doctor :   we have to do a detailed physical and otherwise we do not.
User :   what do you normally include in this basic?
Doctor :   If it is a neurological evaluation, it requires more than normal physical evaluation.
Doctor :   There are several techniques your doctor may use during in a physical examination. A visual examination is used to visually assess parts of the body by looking for abnormal color, shape, size, texture etc. Palpation involves feeling the body using the hands in order to assess size, shape, location and level of pain etc. Percussion involves producing a sound by tapping or scraping a part of the body which can allow determination of parameters such as organ size and density. Finally, auscultation involves listening to sounds produced by organs such as the stomach, lungs, heart.
Doctor :   But could you exactly tell me in which year of medical school you are in ?
User :   2nd year
Doctor :   Ok. The doctor will utilize a variety of instruments during a physical examination such as a thermometer to measure your temperature; a blood pressure monitor to measure blood pressure; a stethoscope to listen to organs such as the abdomen, heart and lungs; an ophthalmoscope to examine the eyes; a speculum to allow examination of the cervix; and an otoscope to examine inside the mouth, ears or nose.
Doctor :   I can be more elaborative but you must be knowing that we have all this information in the medical books in a more elaborated version - for eg. in Davidson' medicine or Harrison's medicine, So could you tell me what exactly you are looking for?
