User :   I am 53 years old female and have been diagnosed with Mixed Connective tisssue disorder and have had severe problems with my lower joints. to date I have had both knees replaced due to the destruction of the cartilide in the kness (8 years ago) and now have problems in my right foot/ankle. 6 months ago I had a mid foot fusion on the right mid foot- the TMT joints 2 and 3 and the naviculocuneiform joints were fused. There is no pain there now but over the last 6 weeks SEVERE pain in the inner side of my ankle. These are the MRI findings
"Small osteochrondral injury of the distal aspect of the lateral malleolus and a corresponding surface.Marginally thin articular cartlidge of the dome more so laterally. Focal osteochrondral injury approx 1cm in AP and coronal diameter affects the calceneal component of the posterior sub joints towards its medial aspect. At the anterior margin of the joint in the sub
chondral bone above the tarsal sinus focal bone marrow oedema and early cyst formation of the inferior talus. There are minor inflammatory changes in the tarsal sinus. Small areas of osteochrondral damage in the middle/anterior subtalar articulation particulary on the side of the joint"
I had an MRI 12 months earleir than this one and in that one there was no mention of these findings.
This destruction seems to be happening quite quickly
My doctor says I need a fusion of the joints in this area. What do you think. The pain is severe and disabling.
Am I going to end up with a crippled foot over time. My left ankle is bothering me and 2 years ago had an arthoscopy of the left bone with an osteochondral defect. Will my left foot/ankle go the same way as my right?
