Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you?
User :   I have two queries
User :   first one is related to mine
Doctor :   Please proceed.
User :   I have multiple lumps over some parts of my body
User :   counting around 20-30
Doctor :   Ok
User :   ranging from less than a few mm to 2 cms in dia
Doctor :   Ok
User :   they are painless, nearly round in shape
Doctor :   Ok
User :   skin over them is like a normal skin
Doctor :   Ok
User :   most of them are freely moving in all directions
Doctor :   Ok
User :   had FNAC nearly 4-5 yrs back
Doctor :   Ok
User :   the docs said they are fatty lumps
Doctor :   Ok
User :   later I met with numerous docs, they also said the same
Doctor :   Ok
User :   More recently, I met a surgeon who removed two of them and even before removing he said they are neurofibromas, a new word to my knowledge at that time
Doctor :   Ok
User :   after my surgery i also met my institute doc. Like many docs he touched them and moved them and confirmed them as lipomas
User :   I am really confused whther I have lipomas/neurofibromas
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
User :   put this questions to numerous docs
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
User :   since nurofibromas are related to NF1
User :   ok please proceed
Doctor :   There are 3 most common causes for multiple swelling's in the body
Doctor :   1. Lymphnode swelling
User :   ok
Doctor :   2. Lipoma
Doctor :   3. Neurofibroma
User :   okk
Doctor :   These are the 3 most common causes.
User :   oh i see
Doctor :   They can be distinguished only be clinical examination and by biopsy.
User :   oh i see
Doctor :   Hence if your concern is what the cause for the swelling is, then I suggest that you opt for surgical removal of one of the swelling and get a biopsy of the sample.
Doctor :   The biopsy reports are the confirmatory diagnosis is this case.
User :   doesn't FNAC confirms the same?
Doctor :   Biopsy reports are more confirmatory than an FNAC, though in the present case, they have equal importance in the diagnosis.
Doctor :   Both lipoma's and neurofibroma's are benign tumours. In the sense,
Doctor :   they do not cause major complications.
Doctor :   Having said this, there are 2 varieties of neurofibroma's
User :   yes most of the docs told me to ignore them and live normal life
Doctor :   Neurofibromatous 1 and 2.
Doctor :   One is genetically inherited by gene factors and the other is not.
User :   neither my father nor my mother has any of them
Doctor :   Type 1 is not common when compared to 2 variety.
Doctor :   Hence apart from disfigurement and the possibilities of genetic transfer(in case of type 1), they are non concerning problems
User :   NF 2 lumps are close to the head, i mean near to ears i guess
Doctor :   and as your doctors suggested, you may ignore them.
Doctor :   Yes, type 1 are more multiple and present on the body, however there are exceptions to this rule too..
User :   can u just distinguish them (lipioma/neurofibroma) from the physical appearence
Doctor :   Since there are exceptions to the clinical features, only confirmatory distinguishment is by genetic studies.
Doctor :   Yes, lipomas and neurofibromas can be distinguished clinically.
User :   I would happy if u point out any
Doctor :   An expert(surgeon) will be able to distinguish them clinically too.
Doctor :   Since they are clinical signs, you may find it difficult to perform them
Doctor :   However, i shall give the information that you wanted.
User :   oh i see
Doctor :   The differences are
Doctor :   1. Lipomas as mobile in all directions, however neurofibromas are mobile in only one direction
User :   oh
Doctor :   2. Lipomas are soft to feel, and neurofibromas are firmer when compared.
Doctor :   Since both are very delicate signs and can be distinguished only by an experienced surgeons, often they get confused in diagnosing it.
Doctor :   Hence FNAC or biopsy.
User :   okk doc
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   yes i have other
Doctor :   Proceed.
User :   My institute doc recently suggested lipid prifile test for me
User :   i didn't exacly recollect the values
Doctor :   Ok
User :   but he said i have some bad cholestrol just exceeding the normal values
Doctor :   Ok
User :   Some docs said lipid profile out of normal values in my case correlates to lipoma existance
User :   is it true?
Doctor :   Abnormal lipid profile can be caused due to multiple other reasons.
Doctor :   such as over weight, increased consumptions, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle and so on.
Doctor :   Though Lipoma's may also be the reason, other causes are to be strongly considered, if you have those factors in you.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor :   Are you there?
Doctor :   Are you there?
Doctor :   Are you there?
Doctor :   I have to close the window as you are not responding. Please chat with our doctors 24/7 for medical queries.
