User :   I have had a painful lump on the roof of my mouth for a little over a week. The pain comes and goes. I've been gargling with baking soda and salt. Three days ago, a huge cold sore erupted on my lip. I've been using Lysine gel on it, and it is healing nicely. But now, even though the first sore is seeping blood, it doesn't seem to be getting any smaller. The pain has subsided, though.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   Hi
User :   54
Doctor :   Are you active sexually?
User :   No
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   You reported that one of the sore is oozing blood - which sore is that - I mean is it on the roof or the lip?
User :   On the roof
Doctor :   How big is the bump on the mouth?
User :   I went to a dental clinic last week. They gave me 16 500mg Amoxicillin capsules, which I took twice a day.
User :   It now extends from my gumline back about an inch or so.
User :   I keep pushing on it with my tongue.
Doctor :   Are you running fever?
User :   It did not start out near my gums, though.
User :   No, I'm not.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you find any pus pointing on the bump?
User :   No
Doctor :   Do you have history of diabetes?
User :   No
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Sitting from this far without a physical examination it is hard to predict what the exact cause might be, however
Doctor :   based on your history, I can think of the following causes that may be the causing these bumps and sores
Doctor :   1. It could be an infective lesion secondary to bacterial or fungal organism.
Doctor :   Since you report that your symptoms aren't getting better and you find blood oozing(which indicates progressing condition) you
Doctor :   may need better choice of antibiotics
Doctor :   The antibiotics will be determined by the results of the swab test.
Doctor :   2. It could be an inflammatory process described as gingivitis and glossitis.
Doctor :   Such symptoms are common after an infection or vitamin deficiency.
Doctor :   They heal slowly over a few days to weeks
Doctor :   Symptomatic treatment with gel and vitamin supplement are sufficient.
User :   Can I apply the Lysine gel to the roof of my mouth?
Doctor :   3. Possible explanation is mucosal growth.
Doctor :   The 3 condition can only be diagnosed by a biopsy of the sample.
Doctor :   So if you find that your symptoms are progressing or you develop additional changes on the bumps
Doctor :   you will need to report back to your doctor for the biopsy.
Doctor :   You can apply glycerine gels on the bump on the mouth.
User :   Is Lycine a glycerine gel?
Doctor :   Lycine is a vitamin gel, which can be applied to the mouth sore/aphthous ulcers on the mouth.
User :   OK, I'll try that tonight, then.
Doctor :   They can be applied to these bumps you described.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   Not tonight, but thank you!
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
