User :   my 7 year old son has a lump on his forehead fore over a 2 mths, took him to a dermatalogyst and since he has no sytoms gave me an ointment called desonide, but the lump is still there just changes in shape but its not gone, she said it can take upto 4 months to go away and that something might have bite him, I would like a 2nd opinon
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. let me read what you have typed
Doctor :   is there pain or discomfort when you touch it?
Doctor :   what is the consistency of the lump? is it soft/hard/firm?
Doctor :   please describe it in detail to me.
User :   no it was itchy at 1st but now its just there, its a round circle and then it comes down a little like a small lollypop, its red
Doctor :   ok.
User :   its firm
User :   people are scarring me that it might be a tumor
Doctor :   does he have any other swelling apart from that?
Doctor :   does he have small lymph node like swellings behind his ear and in neck?
User :   no other lumps, nothing he is very healthy, just alittle over weight
Doctor :   ok.
Doctor :   if he is not symptomatic, you can wait and watch
Doctor :   if still in doubt get it re-examined by another dermatologist
Doctor :   is it possible for you to send me a picture of it? if yes please send it to YYYY@YYYY for me to look at it
User :   do you think its just an insect bite? if so do they take this long to go away ill send you the picture now
Doctor :   ok, let me have a look at it first.
User :   its not the best picture but best one i got
Doctor :   ok. let me see. please give me a moment
User :   i took it with my phone sorry
Doctor :   have you sent it?
Doctor :   i jsut had a look at it
Doctor :   it does not seem to be something to worry about, continue the treatment advised
Doctor :   and get a second opinion from another dermatologist if it is not improving
User :   but what can it be any idea, really worried
Doctor :   since I am not examining it personally, I would not be able to give you exact diagnosis.
Doctor :   you gave to get it re-examined to see if there is any changes in it that could be a cause for worry
Doctor :   as long your child is not having any other symptoms, you can just wait and watch
Doctor :   it has reduced in size than earlier as said by you, so chances are that it may reduce further in size
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yes
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   sometimes its gets smaller specially during the night but then as the day end its back to the same size
Doctor :   ok.
User :   so do you think its just a insect bite
Doctor :   it could be an insect bite, we cannot rule out teh possibility
Doctor :   but it should have come down to normal by now
User :   well the doc said because he messed with it, it would take upto 3 or 4 mths to go down, i just never seen nothing like this before so im really conserns
Doctor :   if he had messed it up , then chances are that there was internal bleed associated which upon drying got calcified and hence the firm consistency and taking time to heal
Doctor :   another possibility is that it could have got changed to sebaceous cyst, and hence taking time to come down
Doctor :   if it is a sebaceous cyst, then it can be drained and swelling will reduced.
Doctor :   for his next visit to his doctor discuss about these two possibilities
Doctor :   and see what conclusion comes up with the re-examination.
User :   what is calcified and hence please explain
Doctor :   what i meant to say is this:
Doctor :   since he messed it up(as you siad) there could have been internal bleeding inside it
Doctor :   this bleeding later got calcifications in it
Doctor :   giving the swelling/lup a firm consistency
Doctor :   *lump
Doctor :   have you followed now what I said?
User :   he did mess with it alot his said him and his friend were trying to push it in at schoool
Doctor :   ok. then there possibility of bleeding and calcification which is not making it go away
Doctor :   make sure he does not mess with it anymore
Doctor :   just wait and watch
Doctor :   do not worry, it will not cause any further harm
User :   thank you so much i can sleep now i was really worried about it
Doctor :   ok. is there anything else I can help you with?
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
