Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   I am Dr.
User :   Hello
User :   I had a fusion lumber l4 to sacrum 6 weeks ago, and am stillvery painful when standing up anything that is active. is this still normal, I even find it hard sometimes to lay on my back bcause it is too painful.
Doctor :   Lumbosacral fusion is found in most individuals
Doctor :   and common
Doctor :   In most it is not symptomatic
Doctor :   and in some it is
User :   I am not sure what you mean
Doctor :   Lumbosacral fusion is a condition that is sometimes natural
Doctor :   Sometimes it is done by surgeons
Doctor :   Which one are we discussing now
User :   Yes, I had it done six weeks ago, and find I am still unable to do anything at all except lay down and sometimes that is painful
Doctor :   Ok it takes more time
Doctor :   and how many vertebral joints were involved as told by your doctor
User :   We are discussing the surgery I had six weeks ago, and that I have still pain in the area on movement
Doctor :   before the surgery
User :   It was from the L4 to the sacrum (multiple discs)
User :   after the srgery
Doctor :   Ok is the rehabilitation post surgery is done
Doctor :   like exercises and other movements
User :   I do those on a regular basis, just came out of rehab
Doctor :   You have stay active and avoid certain movements which your rehab specialist would have told you
Doctor :   staying active with short, frequent, gentle exercise is strongly recommended and delivers many benefits.
Doctor :   Usually it takes 6 to 9 weeks before you get your maximum benefit out of the surgery
User :   I try to do this, it seems as though the area I had done swells up, it actually is so painful it is becoming upsetting
Doctor :   Ok, did you see your spinal surgeon again
User :   not until 11 January
User :   I just spent 4 weeks in hospital
User :   all I need to know is it normal for me to be in so much pain and does it take at least 6 weeks before the graft starts to take effect
Doctor :   At this time, after listening to you, I suggest you a good pain killer to relieve the pain and thus make you more active to continue on the rehab exercises
User :   I am on MsConton with Endone as breakthrough relief
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   What is the severity of pain over a scale of 1 to 10?
Doctor :   Is it reducing over the period of time?
User :   Its about an 8
Doctor :   Is it continous or intermittent on certain movements?
User :   continuos
Doctor :   It is not normal, it is because of skin wound or because of graft, hence it is better to get it examined
User :   Thought that might be the problm as since I have been home I have not really had muuch chance to lay back properly
Doctor :   I consider it to be normal till 4 weeks
Doctor :   but 6 weeks I suggest a recheck asap
User :   Thank you so much for your patience and time and wish you a Merry Christmas
Doctor :   Likewise
Doctor :   Bye for now hope for a speedy recovery
User :   Bye
