User :   Hello

My mother is 52 years of age, and has a history of Anemia. We recently conducted some test on her, which was routine, and got to know that her HB Level is 3.5, we went for a test again and it showed Level 3.5. We conducted some other test such as LFT, KFT, ESR, THYROID, TLC and DLC, all test showed normal results. We asked our Family doctor and he suggested we go for IRON Supplements, We also asked for BLood Transfusion, he told there is no need, as body was functioning normally. though we can see weight loss.

Please suggest what should be done !!

It is better that she is been evaluated for the cause of low hemoglobin.

User :   ok
Doctor :
and usually need blood transfusion

if her heart status is good

I shall suggest you few measures.
User :   and because of these worms, she may be having this problem
User :   Yes,
User :   Please
Doctor :
1. She needs further evaluation by a hematologist preferably
User :   ok
Doctor :
Because if she has any other cause for the low hemoglobin other than the worm infestation that has to be treated simultaneouly
Doctor :
2. I am not sure why your doctor has refused for blood transfusion
Doctor :
because according to my opinion i think she definitely need atleast one pint of blood
User :   He told that, we shall go for medication for 7 days and then may check
User :   ok
User :   for transfusion
Doctor :
3. Depending on the what the cause is, be it worm infestation or any other potential cause that has to be treated accordingly
User :   because, earlier also, she had the same problem, where HB level was 5.5
User :   yes
User :   medications raised the level to 12.1
Doctor :
It would be best if she has been tested for other causes too.'
User :   one more thing, she is having stomach ache and back pain
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   for last 15 days, she stopped taking the medication as prescribed
Doctor :   what medications was she on?
User :   Iron supplements and Appetite
Doctor :
Since when is she having anaemia?
User :   Orlofur and a tonic for appetite
User :   4-5 years
User :   now she has been suggested
Doctor :
was any evaluation for the cause was done?
Doctor :
During this period?
User :   No, except the regular tests, like kft, lft, tlc dlc, and all other tests. Except heamtology
Doctor :   I think it is better to get other evaluation done, like serum iron level, serum feritin levels and other test.

User :   ok
User :   You suggest we visit a Heamtologist
Doctor :
A hematologist is better than a general physician in this cases
User :   ok
User :   Can u refer some
User :   in Delhi
Doctor :
Yes hence i would suggest you to get her checked by a hematologist.
Doctor :
'One moment please, i shall try to get one
User :   ok
User :   Do you think the condition is life threating as i am worried, I hope you understand
Doctor :   hemoglobin below 6 is considered serious

that is why i suggest you for evaluation
User :   ok
Doctor :
Sorry.
Doctor :
Aiiims is the best one
Doctor :

User :   ok
Doctor :

Doctor :
then you can go for XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX bhartya institute of science\
Doctor :
you will definitely find one.
User :   one more thing Sir, We need to visit Mumbai for some function, and would be leaving on Monday, what do u suggest
Doctor :
She should not be traveling by air
User :   What about Train
Doctor :
her oxygen levels will go down if her hemoglobin is low

it is better to wait till the hemoglogin improves
