User :   Hi, My wife is 6 months pregnant and her heart beat slows down just 47 at least couple of minutes during a day. Should we be worried and what could be the cause?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
User :   You have my question
Doctor :   May I know her age?
Doctor :   Does she have any medical illness?
User :   not right now
Doctor :   Does she have any symptoms such as dizziness, breathing difficulties, vision disturbances?
User :   but had stomach problem couple of years ago
User :   she has breathing difficulties and sometimes dizziness
User :   nothing like vision disturbances
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
User :   sure
Doctor :   Pulse rate less than 40 is considered abnormal.
Doctor :   Its referred to as bradycardia.
User :   OK
Doctor :   Hence relatively speaking heart rate that you have mentioned is normal.
Doctor :   However one expects heart rate to increase during pregnancy secondary to hemodilution.
User :   that is why we are worried
Doctor :   But since its in the lower limits of normal, I would suggest you to consider consulting your doctor.
User :   as she face so much difficult in breathing whenever heart slows down
Doctor :   and get an ECG.
User :   what could be cause of this
Doctor :   Occasionally, pregnancy can cause lowering sinus bradycardia, which is a non concerning problem and is expected to normalise after delivery.
Doctor :   This again is not a serious condition as long as there are no associated symptoms.
Doctor :   The condition is diagnosed based on the ECG findings.
Doctor :   Hence my suggestion at this point, is to get an ECG,
User :   and does this condition effects the baby?
Doctor :   watch out for symptoms such as dizziness, vision disturbances, passing out, breathing difficulties and so on.
User :   OK
Doctor :   A mild reduction in the heart rate is not expected to affect the baby.
Doctor :   My suggestion is consult your gynaecologist for physical examination, get an ECG done.
User :   OK
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   No...Thank You very much
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
User :   Bye
