User :   Hi doctor.. I am a hypothyroidism patient since the past 6 months.. I have been taking thyrox-25 on alternate days. The TSH value was 5.01 in october 2010 . But it has now increased to 5.83. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and worry what should I be doing?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   I am Dr.
User :   Hello doctor.. good morning
Doctor :   Good morning
Doctor :   when there are low thyroid harmones , TSH goes high
User :   ok
User :   How does the increased level of TSH impact the growing foetus?
Doctor :   when u take harmones, it will come down
User :   I'm taking hormone injections now once in 2 weeks
Doctor :   the level you have is enough
User :   despite that, it has increased
Doctor :   TSH levels fluctuates. but as long as it below 10 it is ok
User :   the threshold for TSH is 5 I'm told
User :   wont the fluctuating levels of TSH harm the baby?
Doctor :   theoretically it is five
User :   Right now I take Thyroxin 25 on alternate days.. should I be taking it everyday to control TSH?
Doctor :   That is fine
Doctor :   Actually we need high thryroid harmones in pregancy
User :   So if it fluctuates, is that ok?
Doctor :   You do not need to repeat the TSH every month
Doctor :   Do it every 3 or 6 months
Doctor :   Yea fluctuations are normal
Doctor :   Body is not fixed
Doctor :   some variation in day to day are normal
Doctor :   I actually I am good with 5.83.
User :   ok.. So I do not need to increase the dosage or start taking it daily.. and It will not harm the foetus in anyway?
Doctor :   But still u can increase the dose to daily and repeat the TSH in ome month
User :   ok
User :   I'm more concerned about whether it impacts the foetus
Doctor :   go ahead
Doctor :   it does not impact the fetus
Doctor :   low harmones level impact the baby growth
User :   so u mean to say if TSH is very low, it impacts the foetus?
User :   how low?
Doctor :   as longit is around % it is ok
Doctor :   *5
User :   I did not get you
User :   it shd not get lower than 5 you mean to say?
Doctor :   as longit is around 5 it is ok
Doctor :   5 plus or minus 1
User :   ok... so you suggest to start taking the medicine daily and then do a test after one month?
Doctor :   yea , dothat
User :   ok.. I will do that
