Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello Doctor
Doctor :   How can i help you?
User :   I have a 7 month old baby..and we have started semi-solid to solid foods since the past 2 months
Doctor :   Ok
User :   he was passing stools once a day till last week
User :   Now since the last 1 week he passes stools 5-6 times a day but in a very small quantities
User :   and the stool is semi-solid and a bit slimy
User :   i had gone to my PD, and she suggested some medicines
Doctor :   Does he have any other symptoms? Is the stool foul smelling?
User :   like zinconia and asked me to shift to Isomyl instead of lactogen milk
User :   No the stools are not very smelly
User :   the stool colour has shifted from green to yellow now
User :   But he passes within 1 hour of having some food or milk
Doctor :   Since when have you started giving medications?
User :   Since 1 week
Doctor :   Has the frequency in stool changed?
User :   no it has remained the times 4-5 times or at times 5-6 times
User :   but the worrying part is he strains quite a bit
Doctor :   Was he prescribed any other medication along with zinconia?
User :   also he passes stools even in his sleep, which disturbs his sleeping
Doctor :   Whenever the child is shifted from on e food to other there is tendency of loose stools
User :   yes, something called as ethergermia...or smething like tha
User :   no i havnt changed his foods
User :   he continues to have 4 meals a day along with 550 ml of milk
Doctor :   Have you started lactogen?
User :   no he is still on isomyl
User :   i am worried because he has lost 200 gm in a week
User :   from 9.6 he is 9.4 kgs
Doctor :   Since it is almost a week with medications and stools are not controlled it could be that he is having some bacterial infection
Doctor :   He needs some antibiotic for the same.
User :   Yes , but we conducted 2 rounds of stool tests
User :   and the tests are not showing anything
User :   Hence the doc has not given an medicines today(after the 2nd round of test)
Doctor :   Ok were the tests report normal
User :   yes
Doctor :   Was the culture and sensitivity of the stool done?
User :   No
Doctor :   It helps in knowing the exact bacteria if present.
User :   Should i get it done
User :   ok will do it today
User :   Any other possible reasons?
Doctor :   Get it done because as he was having green stools it suggests some infection
User :   could it because of teething
User :   but he has been having green stools
Doctor :   It could be due to any food allergy also
Doctor :   Is he having teething nowdays?
User :   Im not sure
Doctor :   It does cause loose motions.
User :   he has been grabbing our hands, eating his own feet for quite some time now
User :   his gums are somewhat hard...but not sure if this is teething
Doctor :   Then probably teeth must be erupting.
User :   ok along with zinconia the doc had prescribed ENTEROGERMINA
User :   is there anything, that can be given to reduce the number of stools
Doctor :   Ok this is for reducing the stool number only.
Doctor :   And is a very good probiotic
User :   but it hasnt changed at all, he was hvin zinconia and this 2 times a day
Doctor :   1)Continue giving him ORS so that he does not have dehydration.
User :   should i start with ORS...coz i wasnt giving this to him
Doctor :   2)Give mashed banana 3 times a day, it will help in reducing stool number
Doctor :   Definitely otherwise he will have dehydration.
User :   ok
Doctor :   As many times every half an hour.
User :   ok ok
Doctor :   Also give more of Yogurt, carrot, buttermilk, apple
Doctor :   Instead of milk give more of curd and curd items.
User :   I havent started yogurt or it ok with give this condition?
Doctor :   If you have not started then first give buttermilk
User :   ok ie curd mixed with some water and salt?
Doctor :   Was he ever given deworming medications?
Doctor :   Yes
User :   No
Doctor :   Sometimes worms in children also cause loose motions.
User :   Will the stool test tell if he has worms or do we need to do a stool culture
Doctor :   Ask your Paedtratician about it and if required get it prescribed, also get a stool culture done.
User :   ok
Doctor :   3)Make a paste of dried pomegranate seeds with raisins and mix some salt. Give this frequently about 3 to 4 times. It helps in controlling motions in children
User :   ok
User :   Ok, i wanted to understand the possible reasons for these motions, so that these are not repeated in the future
Doctor :   4)Also boil a raw papaya in water and strain it.Give this water, it is very effective.
User :   ok that is quickly possible
Doctor :   Improper eating habits, worms in the intestine, eating objects from the floor and any other underlying condition like bacteria or viral infection are some of the causes
User :   oh yes..all of these are happening
User :   not sure what improper eating habits mean
Doctor :   One thing more give mashed banana with salt.
User :   ok
Doctor :   I mean timings are not fixed and also when ever the child has food at odd items
User :   but wont banana cause more motions, or increase th bowel movements, cause it is typically taken when one constipates
User :   No i try and maintain a schedule for the 4 meals that are given
Doctor :   No banana with salt will help
User :   Sure then i should given him ORS, banana with salt, carrots & apple
User :   and also buttermilk
Doctor :   Yes
User :   shd i worry about his weight loss, or is it normal
Doctor :   It is fine. Do not worry Once it is cured he will regain.
User :   Also i wanted to know if 9.4 kgs is fine for a 7 month old boy?
Doctor :   What was his birth weight?
User :   Cause he looks pretty lean
User :   3.4kgs
Doctor :   It is quite ok.
User :   How much should it be ideally
Doctor :   He is in the ideal weight range.
User :   ok good, Also please let me know what are the typical teething symptoms?
User :   And iwanted to know if i continue with Isomil or should i proceed with lactogen
Doctor :   Diarrhoea, flu symptoms, irritated child, eating anything
User :   ok...
Doctor :   You can continue with Isomyl
User :   for long please?
Doctor :   Up to 2 years but along with home food.
Doctor :   It is better to stop after one and half year.
User :   No no...he was on lactogen till now
User :   but for the last 1 week base on Doc's prescription we started isomil
Doctor :   Ok
User :   i wanted to know if i should mvoe to lactogen or continue with Isomil
Doctor :   Isomyl is better formulated than Lactogen for growing baby and you can continue with it for up to 2 years along with home food.
Doctor :   Have you followed what i have said?
User :   Oh ok...thats nice
Doctor :   Is there anything else you would like to know?
User :   No Doctor thank you. I has been very nice chatting with you
User :   Many thanks
