User:hello Doctor
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:my lips become dark in a week
User:how to lighten it
User:is it due to lip balm i am using ?
Doctor:Since when are you having this problem?
User:from 2 weeks
User:and it is getting dry very much
Doctor:Can you explain a bit more/
Doctor:Is there any factor that causes darkening of the lips?
Doctor:Does it improve after a while?
User:hmm no
User:its looking darker
Doctor:What do you infer from lips becoming dark - do you see dark spots ?
Doctor:* I mean black spots?
User:no black spots
User:its even
User:i have not slept poperly for 1 week
User:is it due to that ?
User:lack of sleep causes face skin darker ?
Doctor:Lack of sleep can cause skin changes.
Doctor:such changes are mostly seen around the eyes.
Doctor:By darkening, I presume you meant increased pigmentation and not bluish discoloration
User:bluish menas/
User:bluish menas?
Doctor:Let me put this in simple words.
Doctor:The area of lips is covered by thin layer of skin when compared to other areas.
Doctor:Hence lip is predisposed to color changes if there is a problem in oxygenation.
Doctor:Lack of proper oxygenation can cause bluish discoloration in the skin and mucous membrane.
Doctor:This condition is termed as cyanosis
Doctor:Cyanosis is commonly seen around the lips, tongue, finger tips and toes.
Doctor:I presume, what you are describing is not this.
User:yea may be
Doctor:Are you following?
User:i dono whetehr it is du eto oxygenated problem
User:and my upper lip is also darkened
Doctor:However sometimes as a result of any new cosmetic products, sun exposure, chemical staining and other causes
Doctor:there could just be hyperpigmentation of lips.
User:oh ok
User:then what is the remedy for that
Doctor:These can be managed by avoiding the factors causing it; using moisturizer; sun screen lotions.
Doctor:If these measures do not improve, then medical creams containing hydroquinone may be needed.
Doctor:These creams reduce the melanin secretion and reduce darkening.
Doctor:So the first step in the management of your problem
Doctor:is to confirm if your problem is due to
Doctor:1. Reduced oxygenation
Doctor:2. Staining/hyperpigmentation.
Doctor:A direct examination with your physician is necessary to differentiate amongst these 2 problem.
Doctor:I will be able to assist you further
Doctor:once the cause of the problem is found.
