User :   I broke my ankle a little over 7 months ago, the medial malleous and then tore ligaments as well. One doctor was talking plates and screws and said to get a second opinion. I did and we went with the second guy who thought it would be fine if I casted it. Did 3 weeks in the cast then another 2 because they said it wasn't healed yet. Did the boot for awhile and have been in PT since then. Finally got an appt with dr. because it was still hurting pretty bad and is hard to walk without a shoe on. Did xrays and an MRI and got a call to immediately get off of it, back in the boot and crutches. Said tear in the deltoid ligament, fracture and medial malleous, and two other nondisplaced fractures, etc. The dr. then reviews it himself and keeps instructions and over the phone relays that he wants a catscan because he is almost definitely going to need to fix it, maybe just scope it, but more likely an open fixation reducation. I spend a week on crutches and finally see him today and he says the catscan shows fractures in different places and since I have pain in several places not just one spot he now thinks I should just keep doing PT for another two months to see if it improves and if not he will do a scope then. Is this normal to go from one extreme of treatment and then with a conflicting catscan the other? Also, is it normal to be having this much pain and trouble walking seven months later?
