User :   i hurt my ankle August 2010 xray showed ligament tear, was told to start physio immediately for 9 weeks. Ankle extremely painful and swollen. Re-xrayed late December, still showed ligament tear and post traumatic arthritis. What can I do to help this heal more quickly. Still sore and swollen. If I walk properly for one day, can hardly weight bear the next day.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   HI
Doctor :   Hi I have seen your query.
Doctor :   May I ask you a few more questions to help you better?
User :   yes please
Doctor :   May I know your age please ?
User :   54
Doctor :   May I know your height and weight please ?
User :   height approx 5ft 3" weight 60 kilos
Doctor :   That is absolutely fine BMI.
User :   thank you
Doctor :   How about the injury, when did it happen ?
Doctor :   Was it in Aug.2010 ?
User :   18 August 2010, so about 6 months ago
Doctor :   As ankle joint has many ligaments , Was it medial or lateral ligaments ?
User :   anterior fib... ligament
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Have you undergone an Arthroscopy to see the exact amount of damage to the ligament ?
Doctor :   Or MRI Scan ?
User :   no, only x-ray and nueclear xray, where they injected dye to see the damage
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   No doubt that X-ray would be helpful.
User :   that was in December, where it showed tear was still there, and post traumatic arthritis too
Doctor :   But the best way to see the extent of damage and how much of the ligament and what fibers were damaged, I would suggest : Doctor :   1. MRI Of the Ankle Joint.
User :   ok. is there anything I can do now to help get it better, or just wait until after mri
Doctor :   2.If there is a permanent damage which cannot be improved by Physio and exercises
Doctor :   Then I would suggest a Surgical repair of the ligament.
User :   as soon as physio presses on joint, joint swells immediately. Very painful still
Doctor :   Till then, for prevention of acute pain and arthritic symptoms I shall suggest some simple medication : User :   I have been given voltaren (anti-inflam. medicine)
Doctor :   Yes sometimes they get into an irreversible scenario and if any exertion is given it can cause further damage.
User :   thank you
Doctor :   Pleasse continue with the same medicine.
