User :   my daughter has had learning problems for many years. she is now a freshman. tests have shown low end of average iq (93) plus some add. Nothing that adds up to the MAJOR struggles she has. She gets tutoring 4 days a weeks. Studies like crazy!! I want to take her to a neuropsychologist but I also read about these absence seizures. Could this be a possibility?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Let me read your query
User :   hi
Doctor :   Her age?
User :   14
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Was all her deveopmental milestones till 3 year on time
User :   yes
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   In case of absent seizures they tend to gaze at objects for a long periods
Doctor :   Does dhe
User :   i never really noticed. I just thought when I was studying with her that she lost focus like add. I'm going to try to notice now. She did tell me that her friends say her name alot like she's out of it. In class the teacher will be talking about something and she doesn't remember jumping to a new topic. could be add, but I don't know.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Considering her normal developmental mile stones
Doctor :   It probably a learning disorder she has got
Doctor :   But to rule out absent seizures we have to get an EEG done if your not sure of her symptoms
Doctor :   Its typical the person may appear to be staring into space with or without jerking or twitching movements of the eye muscles. These periods last for seconds, or even tens of seconds.
User :   who performs this test?
Doctor :   An neurologist
User :   would a neuropsychologist be able to more accurately screen for learning disabilities than a psychologist?
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   sure he will do it too.
User :   what can they find that that a psychologist can't
Doctor :   I suggested because you were worried of absent seizures
Doctor :   Any abnormal brain activity
Doctor :   The test will rpeot the electrical activity of brain
Doctor :   *report
User :   thank you for your help
Doctor :   Wishing her speedy recovery
User :   thanks
Doctor :   You are welcome
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me
Doctor :   Bye for now
