User :   can a kidney cyst 1 cm by 2cm cause nausea and frequent urination?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Dr
User :   how are you?
Doctor :   let me read your query
Doctor :   Im doing great , thanks
Doctor :   only if you have assciated urinary infection, this can happen
Doctor :   or if the location of the cyst is blocking the urine flow, this can occur
User :   i had an ultrasound of abdomen and kidney report says there is a hypodense mass of left kidney 1.4 x 2 x 2.1 with color doppler flow aout the periphery can this just be a cyst? how would you read this?
Doctor :   yes this is a cyst
Doctor :   and is located in the periphery
Doctor :   of the kidney
User :   left upper pole
Doctor :   and having such cysts is a benign condition and nothing to worry
User :   ok do you feel that i need toruch in for ct scan or mri? what does hypodense mean?
Doctor :   with age, many individuals tend to get such cysts in the kidney
Doctor :   it means it is filled with fluid
User :   do you agree with radiologise recommending ct scan or mri???
Doctor :   The doctor may just want to rule out cancer or something else
Doctor :   this is routine protocol
User :   hypodense means what?
Doctor :   to do a CT scan if you find a cyst
User :   do you think i need to rush in to do estra testing immediatley i would rather wait
Doctor :   Hypodense means that the cyst is filled with fluid , and this appears as not a thick lesion on the ultrasound
Doctor :   if the same lesion was hyperdense, it would mean a solid tumor
User :   ok so its ok to defer the ct scan for now
Doctor :   you can wait for 3 months and then repeat the ultrasound to see if there is change in the size
Doctor :   or the next time, you can go for a CT scan
User :   so is it possible that cyst can cause upset stomach?
Doctor :   presence of symptoms like blood in urine, abdominal pain (flanks) are signs that indicate you need intervention
Doctor :   a renal cyst does not cause stomach upset
User :   i feel some lower back soreness and a little tenderness sometimes
Doctor :   and the signs i mentioned earlier are that of cancer or infective lesions of the kidney
User :   the doctor also thought i have reflux or ibs causing upset
Doctor :   that could be true , depending on the associated symptoms you have and the clinical findings on a physical examination
User :   the rest of ultrasound was unremarkable other than fatty liver could that cause upset?
Doctor :   yes a fatty liver can cause upper abdominal discomfort
Doctor :   do you drink alcohol ?
User :   ok so you thinking is that it is a cyst and wait three months for another ultrasound or ct scan then
Doctor :   yes
User :   can the tenderness be an infection? sometimes i get some stinging or redness in the penile area
Doctor :   since you dont have major symptoms , you can wait for 3 months
User :   after urination
Doctor :   this could be a sign of urine infection or associated kidney stones too
User :   ok so i will monitor my symptons and check back in three months
Doctor :   a urine culture and antibiotics for a few days will help
Doctor :   yes you can do that
User :   ok so at least i understand that hypodense means fluid filled what does 'doppler flow about the periphery' meam?
Doctor :   I hope i have cleared all your doubts
User :   yes thank you i was reading more into this baased on stories on the internet
User :   i am over 50 and my father also has kidney cyst
Doctor :   doppler flow is the test done
Doctor :   on you
Doctor :   in that case , the cyst is a 100% diagnosis in your case
Doctor :   and there is no need to worry atall
User :   thank you! i do appreciate clearing up this
Doctor :   as cysts can be hereditary
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   take care and have a good day
User :   thank you
Doctor :   bye for now
