User :   Hi Doctor , i have 1 query which is bout my new born baby girl
Doctor :
User :   i was hoping to speak to a child doctor
Doctor :
please proceed with your query?
User :   she is born on 14th feb. and today morning my wife feels that the baby looks slight yellowish, is this normal for every infant? should we go to doc now? otherwise baby is fine. some folks say to us every child has geondias and we should expose her to sun light and we should another 2 days before going to doc
User :   wife is afraid if we take her to hospital they will extract blood and might admit her
User :   this is how it is here in saudi
User :   so what to do?
Doctor :   Yes, this is quiet normal
Doctor :
for a baby to have yellowish discolouration
Doctor :
due to Jaundice
Doctor :
it is strongly suggested to visit a doctor
Doctor :
get a blood test done
Doctor :
and Know the levels of Bilirubin
User :   ok
Doctor :   this is essential because if the levels are low it will go of only with phototheraphy
Doctor :
if the levels are high than it needs alternate therapy otherwise it may cause nervous system injury
User :   what is phototherapy
Doctor :
the baby is put under ultraviolet light
User :   for how long
Doctor :
this is to speed up the elimination of the biluribin
Doctor :   how long it depends on the biluribin levels
User :   ok
User :   so if they admit, how wil she get mothers milk?
Doctor :   first it should be decided whether the baby should be admitted or not? it depends on the preliminary physical examination and the blood test, latter if required she will be admitted
Doctor :
even if she is admitted the ward is such that both mother and the child is in the same room and same bed.
Doctor :   child will be next to the mother only
Doctor :   no interference in the feeding of the baby
User :   ok
User :   thanks a lot doc for ur help
