User :   Dear Dr.
I am a female (42 years). Extremely healthy and fit.
End of February 2010 I had a risky encounter (one incident). In early July 2010 (4 months later), I started having itchiness all over my body although it started with feet first. I researched the net and I freaked out to find an association with HIV, I had sleepless nights because my yearly mandatory check up was coming up. Mid July 2010 (4.5 months later) I was tested for HIV, Hepatitis and syphilis and the result was negative.
I relaxed for few days and then found out about the 6 months window period and started freaking out again. Although I am usually a very healthy person and I have never had any health related issues before. The itchiness is still there but less, but what I have now is tingling/stinging all over (more in hands and feet). I have also developed a burning sensation almost all over my body randomly, it goes and comes too. It is not severe and moves around from my back to buttocks to legs to feet etc. It is also on the back of my head sometimes. I don’t have every day but most days. I sometimes have tingling on face and around the lips.
Is what I am experiencing neuropathy? Do I have to tested again? I have no reason to doubt the results of the first test. I have to mention that I have been through severe anxiety lately due to this issue and I have had many panic attacks and I hardly sleep. I also spend all of my time on the net researching neurological issues related to HIV but I find them very hard to understand.
Last week I had a cold sore which I do not usually have. This freaked me out and I started checking myself everyday for symptoms. If I manage to sleep at all, I find myself getting up every two hours to check my tongue, face, body for any visible signs. I am seriously losing my mind over this.
Going through a second test is not simple since I cannot get it locally.

Doctor :   Its not necessary having unprotected sex can lead to HIV
Doctor :   unless you are sure the person you had met is suffering from AIDS you can rely on the first test
User :   6 monthss to 2 years to test positive for antibodies? or to develop infections?
Doctor :   To develop infections
Doctor :   Antibodies will appear as early as 2 month
User :   I see, what about the testing window period?

Doctor :   Elisa is a screening test, and western blot is confirmatory
Doctor :   And one more thing i wanted to say you was neurological symptoms in HIV do appear after a minimum period of three to four years so you need not be concerned with tingling/itching sensation
