Is burning urination and pink eye indicative of Chlamydia infection? - Online Doctor Chats
I had unprotected sex and was paranoid so 1 month later I went to get a full std screening. The results were negative for all std's. A week after the test I had burning urination and have had this for 10 days now. I had some doxycycline so I took 100mg a day twice a day for 7 days and still have the burning. Now all of a sudden my girlfriend has pink eye or something like it and I have mild symptoms of it too. Could I have Chlamydia even though the results of the std test was negative?
Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern
Yes it is possible to have Chlamydia
that is only if the tests you underwent did not test for chlamydia
they did test for chlamydia and came up negative
but this test was done a week pryor to any burning urination
in that case I suspect a new infection
not necessarily Chlamydia
it could be any bacterial infection
are std tests very accurate? are false negatives common?
False negatives are not very common
STD tests are indeed quite specific
I have read online that an std test can come back negative if no symptoms were present at the time of the test. Is this true?
and I think your eye symptoms and burning sensation are different
Generally you would develop symptoms within a few weeks time after the exposure
but yes, if you done't have any symptoms then these test can come out as negative even if you have infection
that kind of infection is called subclinical infection
I would advise you to get a urine routine exam as well as urine culture and sensitivity done again
and for the eye symptoms, it is best to consult an eye doctor
is it possible for chlamydia to spread to an eye and then be passed to another and they get the infection in the eye?
Chlamydia spreads by sexual intercourse mainly
it is unlikely to spread by any other mode
wouldn't the doxycycline for 7 days kill the chlamydia?
Doxycyclin is not a very antibiotic against Chlamydia
best antibiotic for chlamydia is Azithromycin
can that be taken orally?
a single dose of 1gm will suffice
what is the recommended dosage?
but you will need a prescription to obtain azithromycin
it is best to confirm it by urine culture and sensitivity before any treatment is decided
How is E-Coli treated?
so please get the urine culture and sensitivity along with blood test to look for signs of chlamydia infection
Im doing that in 30 minutes so this is why I am asking questions now
Best antibiotic against E-coli will be from the group Flouroquinolones
is there anything else I can help you with?
I think that's it for now
you are welcome
have a good day ahead
