Doctor :
The term inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) covers a group of disorders
Doctor :   in which the intestines become inflamed (red and swollen), probably as a result of an immune reaction of the body against its own intestinal tissue.
Doctor :   Two major types of IBD are described: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn disease (CD).
Doctor :   ulcerative colitis is limited to the colon (large intestine)
Doctor :   Crohn disease can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus, it most commonly affects the small intestine and/or the colon.
Doctor :   Both ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease usually run a waxing and waning course in the intensity and severity of illness. When there is severe inflammation, the disease is considered to be in an active stage, and the person experiences a flare-up of the condition. When the degree of inflammation is less (or absent), the person usually is without symptoms, and the disease is considered to be in remission.
Doctor :   have followed what i have said til now?
User :   yes
Doctor :
in case of doubts please get back to me
User :   you telling me alot more then my regular doctor did
Doctor :
i will now go ahead with each ones symptoms
Doctor :
In ulcerative colitis, the inner lining - or mucosa - of the intestine becomes inflamed (meaning the lining of the intestinal wall reddens and swells) and develops ulcers
Doctor :   and leads to stomach pain, bleeding on passing motion, acidity symptoms like flatulence, belching etc
Doctor :
it is often the most severe in the rectal area, which can cause frequent diarrhea. Mucus and blood often appear in the stool (feces or poop) if the lining of the colon is damaged.
Doctor :   Crohn's disease differs from ulcerative colitis in the areas of the bowel it involves - it most commonly affects the last part of the small intestine (called the terminal ileum) and parts of the large intestine. but it can attack any past of the digestive tract from mouth to anus
Doctor :
leading to a varied spectrum of symptoms
Doctor :
including those of ulcerative colitis and in addidtion, diffuse pain,
Doctor :   diarrhea, bloating, urinary tract infections
Doctor :
it has more of a waxing and waning course
Doctor :
it will also have low grade fever
Doctor :
fatigue and weighht loss
Doctor :
have you followed what i have said?
Doctor :
in case of doubts please get back to me
User :   I am following. I do feel warm. Once again I have not loss any weight. THe pill i am on is Dicyclomine 20 mg
Doctor :
ok
User :   I do have slight heart burn atm
Doctor :
Dicyclomine is to relieve your pain XXXXXXXX
Doctor :
Diagnosis and differentiation of the two is generally done by colonoscopy with biopsy of pathological lesions
Doctor :
for heartburn take Prilosec OTC 20 mg once in the morning and again at night before food
User :   also recently I have had a few times i felt weak a lil bit in my right arm
Doctor :   ok
User :   i figure its from stress
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
IBS when triggered due to stress
Doctor :
can be controlled by counselling
Doctor :
and advise of lifestyle changes
Doctor :
as there is a part of psychology in developing IBS
User :   also some tightness in my chest. like when i breath in. they only last a few seconds to a min but its been a week since then
Doctor :
so if you are confirmed that your symptoms are stress related, then it is recommended that you have a counsel done by a clinical psychologist
Doctor :   the chest tightness and difficulty in breathing is happening due to the hyperacidity symptoms as a result of IBS
User :   I belive its stress. so dosey doctor. Let me ask you this. is one of the symptoms of IBS is when theres a calm in the area to feel a lil bubleing in the region?
Doctor :
yes, you could feel it
Doctor :
to confirm, you will need to do a stool test to detect blood in it
Doctor :   and an endoscopy and colonoscopy to visualize the lesions directly.
User :   I can do this in my doctors?
Doctor :   yes you can
Doctor :
the next time you visit your doctor
Doctor :
you ask him to prescribe you these things to be done
User :   whats your opinion on the over the counter tests they sell?
Doctor :
over the counter tests like?
User :   for stoll samples
Doctor :
could you please explain which over the counter tests do you mean?
Doctor :
no, for your symptomatolgy, you require a microscopic and chemical examination done, and the over the counter tests for stools do not have that
User :   the one i seen today after a stool sample in the bowl you drop this pad in. if there is blood detected it will come up positive.
User :   makes sense
Doctor :
yes now it does make sense
Doctor :
but a physical, microscopic and chemical examination together will give a clearer picture of what is happening
Doctor :
just detection of blood can be a reason for other causes of blood in stool like infection, bleed form stomach, hemorroids etc
User :   makes sense
User :   I feel better talking to you
