User :   Hi, I had an ovarian cystectomy at the beginning of May this year and since then I have only had 2 menstrual cycles. I was also told I had a fibroid. Why are my cycles now irregular? Is it due to the operation or could it be due to something else?

User :   Well I took the Pill from age 17-27. I came off it last year and they were regular until the cystectomy
Doctor :   May I know what type of cyst was resected?
Doctor :   And when was your last menstrual period?
User :   I'm not sure of the name sorry. It was on my right ovary and was about 5cm in width.
User :   My last period was about 27 days ago. I know it's not due as well because my breasts get quite tender in the week leading up to my period

User :   Yes
Doctor :   Do you practise safe sex?
User :   Always

Doctor :   Do you have any other medical illness and thyroid problems in specific?
User :   None that I am aware of, no

Doctor :   There are numerous causes for irregular menstrual periods, and
Doctor :   based on the history that you have provided it may have occurred due to the stress, surgery ( any surgery for that matter) or due to nutritional factors.
Doctor :   They usually settle down over a period of months as your body equilibrium gets settled following the surgery.
Doctor :   If these symptoms persists then you will need evaluations to study the hormonal factors that may be involving.
Doctor :   And finally, I would also suggest you to have a check on pregnancy, as you are sexually active.

Doctor :   1. A good nutritious meal is necessary. Regular dieting habits and include plenty of vegetables and fruits along with iron rich supplements.
Doctor :   Few iron rich diets are meat, carrot, pomegranate and so on.
Doctor :   2. Regular sleep and physical exercises.
Doctor :   These should also help you getting your periods back to normality.
