User :   Hi there! I just spoke with my mother who lives in Kuwait (American citizen but doing contract work) and she just informed that she has been in and out of the hospital for liver cirrhosis. She also informed me that she was "fine" and that her company was going to have a specialist look at her here in the states. Though she says she is fine she also told me that she wasn't able to fly and that the military was arranging to have a med flight for her to come back with doctors on board to monitor this more serious than it sounds. She is Caucasian, 43 years old, good health, recently had a tummy tuck and a Brazilian butt lift performed in Kuwait approximately three months ago...I am very worried and would like some reassurance - I have a feeling she is not telling me everything...
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   I am Dr. xxxx
User :   Good evening/morning...nice to meet you
Doctor :   Let me read the query and answer
User :   sure
User :   I know you're still reading but if it's any consolation, she isn't a heavy drinker...
Doctor :   It is bit skeptical to say 'fine' and then needs a med flight
User :   I know, right...that's what has me worried
User :   She mentioned something about the pressure of being in the air that long wasn't good for her liver...I'm not buying it though
Doctor :   As I understand, she has 'liver cirrhosis' whether diagnosed\
User :   Correct
Doctor :   Liver cirrhosis has stages
Doctor :   Alcohol is the primary cause of cirrhosis of liver
Doctor :   It needs to be monitored thoroughly
User :   I know she was a "party girl" when she was a teenager...but rarely drinks/had drank since my brother and I were born (late 80's early 90s)
User :   I get that part...I'm more concerned about the fact she needs to be monitored as she just doesn't seem like it fits
Doctor :   I mean not in the flight
User :   oh...okay...
Doctor :   I mean follow up with the Doctor once every 3 months
Doctor :   with Liver and Renal profile
User :   Is that a legitimate reason...the pressure, I mean?
Doctor :   Dietitian has an important role
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   Even for normal people pressure is a problem
Doctor :   Some do not sustain it
User :   My brother was diagnosed with renal you think this could be hereditary?
User :   Oh, okay...I see
Doctor :   Renal acidosis can be hereditary
User :   So, in your opinion, without seeing makes sense that she would be monitored on the flight?
Doctor :   There is no intense montioring on the flight
Doctor :   unless she has a complication of esophageal varices
Doctor :   which is the common complication of cirrhosis
User :   She didn't mention anything about that but I'm sure she wasn't telling me everything
Doctor :   They just want to make sure that she lands safely
Doctor :   as pressure changes can result in bleeding
User :   oh, you feel that this could have anything to do with her plastic surgery?
Doctor :   This is what I guess
User :   Makes sense...I'm just trying to investigate and draw conclusions from the little that she told me
Doctor :   Plastic surgery if it is eventful ( post surgery) yes it can be related
Doctor :   but we have little to comment on it
User :   She mentioned that the doctor pulled her abdominal muscles very tight and that she had to go in to have them "untightened(?)" due to extreme discomfort
User :   ok...
User :   Can this condition be cured?
Doctor :   I am not sure about this question
Doctor :   I have no expertise in tummy tuck
Doctor :   You may prefer to ask a plastic surgeon
User :   Oh, I mean the chirrosis
Doctor :   here
Doctor :   WWW.WWWW.WW Doctor :   Coming to cirrhosis
Doctor :   Cirrhosis is fibrosis of liver
User :   I have 2:30 left
Doctor :   the function of the liver is deteriorated
Doctor :   From here she should avoid all that is toxic to liver
Doctor :   Alcohol, certain medicaitons
Doctor :   some infections
Doctor :   Then the cirrhosis does not progress fast
User :   okay...
Doctor :   But the way to get back to normal is only by Liver transplatn
User :   I bet she got it from all those medications she took in the past for certain things
Doctor :   Ok
User :   Anyway you have been extremely helpful and my time is running out...thank you very much for your help...take care
