User :   I had a deep cut at base of middle finger and inbetween middle and first finger 5 weeks ago, had 12 stitches, stiches removed too early, no splint, took about 3 weeks to close up completely. Now section of finger around healed cut is swollen, hard and red (small area though).
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   I have red your query.
Doctor :   May I ask some more details about the problem.
User :   yes
Doctor :   Since when have you noticed these changes?
Doctor :   May I know your age?
Doctor :   Is it hurting?
User :   Never did lose slight redness and swelling, just tonight noticed the skin was hard and slightly more swollen.
Doctor :   Do you notice any discharge from it?
User :   no
User :   I am 60.
Doctor :   Do you have history of diabetes?
User :   No.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you have any other associated symptoms such as fever Or itching/burning sensation over the affected region?
User :   there's slight burning and feel skin is tight when I stretch out middle finger.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
Doctor :   Sitting from this far without a physical examination of the affected region, it is hard to predict the problem may be.
Doctor :   However presence of redness and swelling on a healed wound are signs of inflammation.
Doctor :   This inflammation may have been triggered by an infective organisms.
Doctor :   Since the wound is on the web of the finger which contains plenty of moisture,
Doctor :   i presume the infection to be fungal in nature.
Doctor :   However without physical examination and swab test, it is hard to predict the type of infecting organism.
Doctor :   Hence my suggestion to you is that you consult your doctor, who after physical examination will diagnose the infection correctly.
Doctor :   Since your symptoms are restricted to a small area, with appropriate creams, you should be fine in a few days.
Doctor :   Apart from this, you may also need to check your blood sugars as a part of evaluation.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   yes
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   since wound is healed, infectionwould be under the skin, right? So what would ther be to sswab and would a cream penetrate the skin enough?
Doctor :   No.
Doctor :   Since it has been 5 weeks since the injury.
Doctor :   your wound should have healed by now.
Doctor :   I mean, it takes about 2- 4 weeks for wound to heal, if all other parameters are normal.
Doctor :   More over a deep seated infection presents with more severe symptoms.
Doctor :   Absence of pain/discomfort and fever are against the features of deep seated infection.
Doctor :   So, it is likely that the inflammation/infection is restricted to the surface area
Doctor :   Most probably could be fungal in nature.
Doctor :   Your doctor, who has the access and freedom to examine you will be able to provide more information in this regards.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   NOt really, but there is some discomfort, some tingling and tenderness, should have said so before.
Doctor :   The symptoms are suggestive of an infection, but is it is most likely a surface infection
Doctor :   probably a viral in nature.
Doctor :   You should be feeling better with appropriate antibiotics.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?'
