Infant with mild blocked nose, sound when breaths. Taking Sinarest, Taxim. Is it ok to take gripe water along? - Online Doctor Chats
How are you doing?
Hello Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX here .. i am doing well .. thanks
i have query regarding my 3.5 months old daughter
How can I help you?
so her pediatrist has suggested her Sinarest - 1M 3 times a day and Taxim-O 1ML - 2 times a day for 5 days
i am giving her Grype Water since last 2 months
by Grype water was not suggested by Pediatrist
my query is
is it ok to give Grype water when these medications are given
You can give it
ok.. will it not have any side effects ?
it will not
It does not have an active drug actually
got it .. and those medications are ok at this stage ?? since she is only 3.5 months old
Its only a mixture of natural ingredients
when was this recommended for her?
the medicines I mean
and how about other medications ?
it was on Mar 2nd when we took her for her 3.5 months Vaccination
was her breathing fast at that time?
no.. it was normal breathing only
did she have any fever?
till now she has not got any fever
was she producing any phlegm while coughing
she had cold and cough 2 weeks back
so when you took her, she had nothing actually?
there was mild mucus when she used to cough
it was 2 weeks back she had blocked nose with cough . 3 days back she had only mild blocked nose with mild sound and mild mucus - so those medications were given
now she is feeling better than before
They are not ok, Nanidini
Its probably just allergic or at most, a viral
an antibiotic is not indicated
sorry what exactly this means "an antibiotic is not indicated XXXXXXX
An antibiotic is used to fight a bacterial infection
It has no role in a viral infection
She doesnt have any symptoms that suggest she has a bacterial infection
no fever, no productive cough
actually we had changed 3-4 places
so i should be an allergic i feel
due to dust and weather change
are you based out of Bangalore, Nandini?
no my native is not b'lore
where do you live right now?
I am from Gauribidanure which is 75 km from here
right now i am at Bangalore
the weather is like that here
a month back we had travelled to our native
lots of people get allergies
when we were here she was very much fine
but after we travelled she also got affected and me too for 10 days almost
I can tell you some useful tips which will help you avoid allergies
First, keep your house spotlessly clean
Change your pillow covers every day
Next, all your bed linen needs to be washed in hot water
Next, try and keep the house humid
Not very dry
ok got it
when the cough is too much, you can boil a bowl of water in the room
It'll produce steam
and keep the place humid
and try and keep yourself warm
the temperature fluctuates quite a lot here and that too suddenly
saline nasal drops
would also help
But since you've started the antibiotic
complete the course
is it compulsory to give Taxim-O along with Sinarest or can I give only Taxim-O ?
Only Sinarest would actually take care of her symptoms
But since you have started the antibiotic, I want you to complete the course
Having incomplete courses of antibiotic is not advisable
It leads to resistance
what is Taxim-O is for ?
Its an antibiotic
the name of the drug is cefixime
it works against bacterial infections
ok.. got it
so i would go ahead with Sinarest and Taxim as suggested for 5 days which would complete the course
More importantly, do the stuff I told you earlier
It will help prevent such things in the future
