Dr XXXXXXX I have a query relating to my 1.5 month old daughter
from the past 3 days, she has been crying a lot, has lost her apetite ( she is being exclusively breastfed)
Is she the first baby to the mother?
yes, she is our first baby
Is she running fever?
not today, but she had fever on monday.
Babies cry for 2 reasons
If they are hungry and if they need to pass urine or stools
these 2 are normal conditions where they cry
Else, there could be a problem
In your daughter's case
ok. she has been passing stolls properly
I feel she may not be adequately fed
she is refusing to take feeds
How often is she passing stools?
we tried giving her Dexolac, but she isn't taking that as well
Is there any difficulty for her to pass stools?
3-4 times a day from past 4 days
That seems normal
Is the mother feeding the baby every 2 hours?
she is trying, but baby isnt drinking
and she isn't sleeping well also ... she stays awake almost the entire day
there may be a problem in the way she is breastfed
She is hungry, that is why she may not be sleeping
Is there anyone at home who can help and guide your wife well to nurse the baby?
my mother-in-law is here, but inspite of that, baby has been restless
Don't try Dexolac now
Try and breast feed the baby as much as the mother can
can we use feeding bottle?
I do not see a seemingly difficult problem here
It is not advisable
Continue to breastfeed directly
May be you can help your wife in feeding the baby
Hold the baby straight to the mother's breast
Support the neck of the baby
You should try and do this
The baby does not need any medication
She is definitely not sick
She is just trying to adjust to the mother
It should not take you long time
Make the baby suck more at the mother's breast
Once she is full, she will sleep
In case she develops fever again, if her crying does not stop and if she is still not feeding well by another day
Please take her to the pediatrician
she was feeding well, but suddenly lost her apetite ... will now try your advise
Hope you are following me

She will be fine soon

Wishing your baby a speedy recovery

and bye for now
