User :   My blood pressure has gone from 120/80 to 147/97 overnight. I feel a constant pressure around my neck and chest area. Heart disease has already been ruled out and I've always had a consistent 120/80 blood pressure. What could be causing the sudden and constant change in my BP?

User :   I check my BP after rested for 10 minutes.
Doctor :   Was it checked in hospital
User :   I was taken to the emergency room last wednesday because of an irregular heartbeat.
User :   They checked my BP and said it was 130/85
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   So plz check three more consequitive readings
Doctor :   And get the cholesterol levels checked
User :   I do have high cholesterol. I'm not taking any medication for it however.
Doctor :   You may require Complete cardio workup again
Doctor :   Because high cholesterol will lead to high BP and other cardiac symptoms
Doctor :   Were you not prescribed for any antihypertensoives
User :   My personal physician is allowing diet over medication.
User :   My concern is the sudden jump in BP and the constant pressure around my neck and chest.
User :   Also, the pressure gets to be so great I can feel the pulses inside of my ears.
User :   Kind of like a head rush.

User :   I had a CAT scan with contrast done at the ER and the doctor says there was no evidence of flow problems.

User :   There is no real pain. It's just a constant pressure in my chest and around my neck.

Doctor :   Do you smoke? consume alcohol?
User :   I quit smoking a few days ago. I do not drink.

Doctor :   Even pleural rub will have same symptoms
Doctor :   Which can also be withdrawal effect of smoking
User :   What is pleural rub?
Doctor :   What happens after hypo nicotenemia there will uneasiness which makes ear full and feeling of palitations
Doctor :   Its when lungs are infalmmed they rub the pleura when inspiring

User :   So if I smoke a cigarette these symptoms will go away?
Doctor :   Yes probably will require nicotine
Doctor :   You can rather use nicotine patches
User :   Would all of this also cause my BP to become elevated?

User :   Is there a medical name for these symptoms related to withdrawl from nicotine?

User :   All readings are indicating 147/97 range

User :   I was told to take every day and given a prescription. Let me find it

User :   Okay, I'm not feeling anxious or having panic attacks so I don't think that will do me any good.
Doctor :   Thats what i had questioned any issues at home causing anxiety/ disturbed mind/ anger
User :   None. Just normal stress that most people have.
Doctor :   When more than three readings are high then should recheck the values next two days to confirm hypertension
Doctor :   Then we start with Medicines
Doctor :   The condition where the Blood pressure is raised
Doctor :   You will probably require Antihypertensives
User :   That is what is confusing me.
User :   How can I have normal blood pressure always then overnight have hypertension?
Doctor :   Yes it will take at least three days reading for confirming
Doctor :   Some how it has to happen one day
Doctor :   IT never gradual rise in BP
Doctor :   With history of high cholesterol, smoking your are having chances for high bP
Doctor :   I meant it will appear suddenly not gradually

Doctor :   We will diagnose only after they have symptoms of High BP
Doctor :   Until then most people are left undiagnosed

Doctor :   Start with healthy lifestyle/ regular diet/ salt restriction
Doctor :   yoga / mediatation any of these
Doctor :   Should help early stages of Hypertension
Doctor :   Once under control can postpone medicines
Doctor :   If they tend to remain High then we have start on medicines

User :   If I smoke a cigarette and the thumping in my ears don't go away then what should be my next step?
Doctor :   I never said to smoke try nicotine aptch
Doctor :   If not releived then rules out withdrawal symtoms and confirms Hypertension ( high BP)
