User:hello I suffer with constipation alter with diarrhea and ibs I have constant chronic low back pain I wanted ask you I took milk magnesia I wanted to know how long stay in your system
User:Any body there
Doctor:Milk of magnesia is not absorbed into the body. Therefore this products stays and has effect over a period of 2-4 hours.
Doctor:It gets gradually excreted through the feces.
User:I took 5 pm I had 3 bowel movements now diarrhea
Doctor:Loose stool is one of the side effect of this product. The number of loose stool you would have depend entirely on the amount (dose) of this medicine you took.
Doctor:Rest assured, it will resolve soon.
Doctor:I would suggest you to drink plenty of water.
Doctor:if you have say more than 6 episodes of loose stool, it is advisable to take plenty of yoghurt and antimotility drug.

Doctor:I would say IBS is one of the annoying condition. It isn't harmful but symptoms can be frustrating.
User:Tell me about it
Doctor:Since symptoms of IBS is varied, I suggest my patients to treat it symptom wise.
Doctor:I hope you are planning and following a strict diet consisting of high fibres.
Doctor:If spastic gut movements is troubling you, you should try antispasmodics briefly or as and when it affects you more.
User:I can't go places im afraid I have attack
Doctor:You may also use antacids as and when required.
Doctor:Besides these treatment options
Doctor:there are many cases where patient have found good relief with antidepressant medicines.
Doctor:I am not sure if you have tried it.
Doctor:Some of my patients have found good benefits with amitriptylines and other antidepressant drugs.
Doctor:you can give a serious thought about this class of medicines.
Doctor:if you don't wish to be on antidepressants, there are multiple other agents which are in trials to treat IBS.

User:No I don't like antidepressant

Doctor:There are multiple antidepressants that are used to treat IBS. Amitriptyline, imipramine, fluoxeine, paroxetine are some commonly used medicines. The tolerance to each of these drugs are varied.
Doctor:I just wanted to inform you that not all antidepressants and not all doses have side effects.

Doctor:But if you do not like them at all, there are new agents being tried as treatments for IBS.

Doctor:yes, it was taken off market few years ago due to safety concerns.
Doctor:But as I said other new agents are in trial phase with promising results.
Doctor:It should soon come into use.
User:Then they put back on med Cost 600 dol not cheap
Doctor:On the other hand, it looks like you have tried multiple agents with varying tolerance and effects.
Doctor:And as IBS is a chronic condition some of the drugs will need some time before you see good results
User:I tried everythin im allergeic 28 meds
Doctor:If you were to ask me, I would suggest you to either try amitriptylline or paroxetine.
Doctor:These are the two well tolerated drugs among my list of patients.
Doctor:If you haven't tried these drugs, discuss about it the next time you see your physician

User:Is that buspar
Doctor:Citalopram, Imipramine and Venlafaxine are other agents that are listed under IBS use.

Doctor:Yes, buspar is bupropion.
User:Im not too familiar with them

Doctor:Psychiatrist with good expertise in treating depression would know about these drugs.
