User:Hi, I am 29 years old and over 10 years ago i fell thru the attic and landed on my right buttock causing it to swell up.. 10 years later i still have a lump which i beleive has excess fluid build up but have never done anything about it.

I went to get this checked a few years ago and the doctor told me not to touch it due to further possible complications. However if i ever wear tight bottoms its so noticeable.. Help!

I am trying to lose weight at the moment will the lump prevent that and surely if its just excess fluid could this not be drained out as a bruise for 10 years is un heard of.
Doctor:Hi, I am Dr. XXXXXXX D
Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
User:Ok thank you
Doctor:I have gone through your query
Doctor:and from your description I feel you might have developed something called a cyst
User:Ok and what is the best course of action?
Doctor:or fibrosis following that fall
Doctor:the best you could do is to confirm the nature of it by doing an ultrasound scan
Doctor:if it is a cyst, that can be drained by a simple surgical procedure
User:So do i have to just go to my gp and be referred to the hospital?
Doctor:and if it is fibrosis, it is best to leave it alone
Doctor:or you get that fibrosed lump also removed
Doctor:I am afraid yes
User:What is the difference between a fibrosed lump and a cyst?
Doctor:In UK everything must happen through the GP, so you are stuck with your GP
Doctor:Fibrosed lump is a hard mass with nothing but healed scar
Doctor:a cyst is a fluid filled sac like structure
User:And why is it best to leave it alone? Thats fine i live in the uk and also have private medical so can go through them
Doctor:Fibrosis will not cause any harm
User:My lump feels hard and squiddgy and noticable when i look in the mirrow
Doctor:so unless it is absolutely necessary you don't need to get it removed
Doctor:okay, in which case I think it is a fibrosed lump
Doctor:If you can go through private medical, then please do get an ultrasound scan done of the area
User:Will this prevent me from loosing weight though? And how is a fibrosed lump developed from a single fall?
Doctor:that will give you the best results
User:I mean prevent me from loosing weight around my buttock area
Doctor:No, this will not prevent you from loosing weight, but will become prominent after loosing weight
User:But if i lose the weight around my buttocks wont the lump be more noticable?
Doctor:Fibrosed lump can form from a single fall because, when you fall fro height, you can develop a heamatoma
Doctor:which is collection of blood
Doctor:Yes, the lump will be more noticeable
User:I didnt fall on the floor but got stuck in the attic floor, what are the dangers of getting that lump removed? If any
Doctor:and this heamatoma can take a long time to heal, leading to excessive scar tissue formation
Doctor:None i suppose
Doctor:There are no real dangers of getting that lump removed if the surgery is done properly
User:But if i got the lump removed will it cause any complications and completelty go away?
Doctor:I do not think it will cause any complications
User:What is the surgical procedure for removing the lump and what is the healing time?
Doctor:and yes it will go away completely
Doctor:the surgical procedure is called lumpectomy
Doctor:and healing time will be about 15 days
User:How is it performed?
User:So i can look into itt
Doctor:It is performed either under local anaesthesia or under spinal anaesthesia
Doctor:and the skin just above the lump will be cut open with a sharp scalpel
Doctor:then the lump will be properly identified and isolated
Doctor:then that will be extracted or removed
User:Ok perfect, i am going to see my gp about this as it has been bugging me for the past few months
Doctor:then the skin will be stitched together with a fine thread (usually non absorbable material such as ethilon or prolene)
Doctor:is there anything else I can help you with?
User:I am trying to lose weight at the moment, for the past 7 weeks i have been on a healthy eating regime but my weight loss has slowed down.. I exercise around 4-5 times a week
User:But not sure if i am eating enough calories
Doctor:It is quite natural for the rate of weight loss to slow down after some time
Doctor:continue the exercise
Doctor:and diet restrictions
Doctor:you should be able to loose weight gradually
User:How long realistcalltly can i lose 3-4 stones?
Doctor:It will take about 2 years to lose that much weight
User:Doing it the healthy way?
User:Ok thank you
Doctor:you should not do it any other way
Doctor:You are welcome
User:That is all the questions i had
Doctor:is there anything else I can help you with?
User:No that is all - thank you
Doctor:Okay, thank you for using the service
