How can I handle Polycystic ovary syndrome and irregular periods effectively? - Online Doctor Chats
Hello doctor.. I work in software field. My age is 26.weight 162cm
i have consulted a gynacologist. she prescribed me some contraceptive tablets to make my periods normal
i have stopped the tablets before 4 months
and the periods were normal for next 2months. then periods got stopped.
before the meds were started, may i know how regular your periods were ?
pefore i get treatment for pcod, my periods were irregular.. sometimes it come in 45 - 50 days
once it didn't come for 3 months, so i consulted teh doctor and cam eto know that it is because of pcod
so once treatment started, what was the duration of the periods ?
periods were normal during medication. it was coming in 24 days..
for 5 days
As my periods didnt come regularly in last 2-3 months, i had tab deviry adn now i got my periods
i would like to know whether i can try for pregnancy now?
Should i take some gap, as i had tab deviry recently?
first and foremost, we need to know if you are having proper ovulation
in PCOD, it is common for cycles to be anovulatory
which means, the egg are not released by the ovaries
in case the ovulation is occuring properly, then you can defintiely try to concieve
in case , cycles are anovulatory, your doctor can prescribe medications, to cause ovulation, and once ovulation is confirmed, conception can be tried
ok. how can i check this?
ovulation study can be done with serial ultrasounds
ok. so, should i try for 1 month and if i didn't become pregnant, i need to contact a gynacologist
and check whether ovulation is happend
yes, that is right
first , see if you are getting your periods regularly
if they are again irregular, then consult your doctor, who after menses will guide you when to have a ultrasound , on specific dates
ok. mostly after stopping teh tablets, periods will be normal for 2 months. and then it will get stopped
may i know, was the tablets stoped on advice of your doctor ?
yes. doctor asked me to continue the tablets for 7-8 months. then stop teh tablets and check whether menstruation is normal
so how many months did u take them ?
in total ?
i have taken it for 7 months
do u know if the cysts in the ovary have resolved ?
i didn't do a scanning in last 7 months
doctor told me that if menstruation is regular, cyst will go with that
the cyst was very small.
when was the last time you saw your gynae ?
persistence of the cysts, or their enlargement can be the cause of your persisting irregular periods
i have seen the gynacolost before 8 months
and who prescribed you the Deviry tablets , to get your periods ?
deviry tablet was given at that time
then she asked me to have contraceptive tablets for 7-8 months
so, it was prescribed before the Oral contraceptives were given
yes.. but at that time, i was not planning for pregnancy.
so, you repeated the same tablets, since you were not having periods , IS THIS RIGHT ?
but i heard that contraceptrive tablets will have side effects
first and foremost, i would recommend you to consult your gynae now.
she will order a ultrasound, to check if, the cysts have resolved or not
in addition, she can prescribe you medications, to help u ovulate
so , that you can try to concieve within the next cycle itself
ok. if i become pregnant even if cysts are there, will it create some problems to the baby?
it will not result in any issues
ok. as i had deviry tablets recently, and if become pregnant now, will it create any problems
no, deviry, tab action will end with the onset of the periods
it does not stay in the blood for long duration, to affect the fetus
Ok. Thanks a lot doctor. I shall consult my gynacologist and do an ultrasound .
OK, YOU are welcome
take care and have a good night
thank a lot. good night
