User :   My mom had breast cancer in 2001. SHe had a lumpectomy, good margins and her lymph nodes were removed. Since then, all her checkups are good, not one sign of cancer. She just found out on an xray (pain brought her to the doc) that she has a lesion on her bone. SHe has an mri sunday. What are the chances this is real bad news? If it were mestastic bone cancer, wouldn't this be a long time?
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :   Dr XXX here
User :   hi
Doctor :   May i know the age of your mother ?
User :   she is 72
Doctor :   ok, Do you have the HPE report of the tumor resected ?
User :   no, that is all i know.
Doctor :   ok, good margins of a tumour indicate that there are less chances of its spread locally and a ease to resect
Doctor :   but its distant spread can be determined by the type of cancer
Doctor :   more pleomorphic the cancer is more are the chances of its spread through blood or lymph
User :   it was breast cancer. 2001. I'm sorry I don' know more i can ask her now
Doctor :   May i know xray of which part has she undergone ?
User :   her arm
User :   it was a tumor fueled by estrogen.
User :   stage 1
Doctor :   yes , there are decent chances where the breast cancer would have metastasized to the humorous
Doctor :   the tumours sensitive to estrogen are aggressive
Doctor :   the bone growth may be a secondary metastasis
User :   that's bad news, you are saying there is a likely chance this is breast cancer in her arm bone
Doctor :   yes, likely
User :   that is fatal mostly, yes?
Doctor :   Could not say until the depth or the severity of the involvement is determined
Doctor :   and there is requirement of PET scan too to rule out any other possible metastasis in other parts of the body
User :   I'll know monday.
User :   i'll make sure she gets pet.
User :   i can'belive markers didn't catch this. she has gotten tumor markers faithfully
Doctor :   And if you can come again on chat , please bring the HPE report of the tumour resected , it would help us to give you a clear picture
User :   how could that happen
User :   what is an hpe
Doctor :   untill the tumour gets mature enough and functional ( in producing reaction )the markers can miss
Doctor :   Histopathology report. microscopy study
User :   i see. It's been ten years.
User :   the pathology report?
Doctor :   can present this way too
Doctor :   yes, i meant the same
User :   thank you . I have enough information for now. I cannot believe this. I am not ready for this. sorry.
Doctor :   confirm my ideas with the oncologist you consulting
User :   I will. SHe is in pain, and only went to an orthopedic person .
