User :   HI and thank you!I am a 31 year old female, I have 2 children, one is 3.5 and one is 4 months old. I am about 10 pounds overweight for my height and age. I consume LARGE quantities of milk and I have since the pregnancy of my first born.
My PCP recently ordered a blood panel on me since it has been years since my last workup. My Cholesteral came back at 263, LDL 173, HDL 57 and TRI 168. WOW...however...I was not aware, nor did the nurse tell me that I had to fast for this bloodtest.
In general my diet is moderate, I eat what I should and eat what I shouldn't, probably more of what I shouldn't have while pregnant this last time.
I am serioulsy stressing about my levels. I just can't believe they are that high. Could the fact that I did not fast before my test perhaps play a part in the high readings, or is this test cumulative?
Doctor :   hi
User :   Hi, good morning.
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. let me read what you have typed.
Doctor :   fasting sample of blood is more reliable for the test
User :   ...I also stopped bFeeding about 4 weeks ago, and just to mention this as well..the very last day of my pregnancy, the day my daughter decided to be born I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia but after her birth my bp was fine 118/78
Doctor :   you can follow diet control over this month and check again next month on a fasting sample
User :   thanks
Doctor :   fasting should be for atleast 10 hours prior to the test
Doctor :   preeclampsia changes usually do not persist
Doctor :   since your BP was fine after your delivery
Doctor :   the cholesterol levels that were detected at present will not have any bearing on it
Doctor :   do you have any symptoms at present?
User :   I am just wondering how my levels could be so high...I know that you're not my doctor but...I just think it's crazy
User :   no symptoms that I know of
Doctor :   the cholesterol values will depend to some extent on what foods you consumed prior to the test in last 24 hours
Doctor :   if you have had high fat containing foods it will be high
Doctor :   but your HDL levels are fine, which is a good sign. HDL is considered to be good cholesterol with good effects on heart
User :   okay..well...I had 3 slices of xtra cheese pizza and a miller lite and then a bowl of cereal before bed at like 11:00pm, I had my test at 7:30 the next morning
User :   and coffee with my 2% milk before the test
Doctor :   ok, then you can attribute your levels to the cheese and the milk.
User :   when I called my mom in a panic she asked if I had fasted....and well..obviously not!
Doctor :   repeat the test in 1 month time after diet control
Doctor :   switch to slim milk
Doctor :   and avoid fatty and oily foods,
Doctor :   use processed cheese, preferable slim cheese
Doctor :   have more of vegetable salads, fruits in diet than the non veg and dairy stuff
Doctor :   drink plenty of water about 10-12 glasses per day
Doctor :   having a glass of warm water with juice of 1 lemon on empty stomach will also help
User :   yes..water, I drink about 1 gallon of milk in a day and a half, I almost never reach for the water, it's always the milk
Doctor :   you have to consume water, hough you get water content from milk, having natural water is better
Doctor :   switch to slim milk and start with water consumption more
Doctor :   make sure to drink 10-12 glasses per day of water along with your other fluid intake
Doctor :   it will help to regulate various metabolism in teh body
Doctor :   water is essential part of almost every function in the body
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   Thank you Dr., are you a GP or a Cario doctor? I never heard of the water and lemon thing, I will absolutely do it. I am hoping that my elevated levels are a part of my poor choice in food the evening before my test. I exercise 30-40 minutes a day walking/running trying to get off the last of my pregnancy weight. These test results just floored me. My initial call to my pcp was for hairloss question, after the birth of my last child i noticed significant hairloss, which i come to find out is normal. It's regrowing, so before my ob got back to me my pcp ordred tests for thyroid and rbc....little did I know it was a lipid panel too..haha.
User :   Yes, I have followed what you said, more whole grains and veggies, less dairy, more water.
Doctor :   yes, I am a GP
Doctor :   the lemon and the water tips that I told are useful home remedies
Doctor :   that are safe to use
Doctor :   the hairloss problem will also get corrected with the diet I have suggested.
Doctor :   along with proper haircare like proper rinsing of shampoo and conditioner, avoiding dirt and sweat accumulation (as it suffocates the follicles making then weak).
Doctor :   use of wide toothed comb to detangle hair, avoiding hot blow hair dryers, use of round bristles brush to comb hair twice a day to increase circulation
Doctor :   use a mix of sesame oil, almond oil and coconut oil in a 1:1:1 ratio, warm it and massage gently into hair twice a week
Doctor :   it will help to increase circulation and strengthen follicles, cover with warm towel for 10-15 minutes, and then wash with lukewarm water
Doctor :   these will help to reduce hairloss and stimulate new hair growth.
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yes, I am doing all of those thigns, my hair fell out in PATCHES in my temples it got so thin, now I have baby hairs growing back in those spots. My hair got so thick during my last pregnancy, my ob said that it's quite normal at about 3 months PP to have significant hairloss, especially after abruptly ceasing nursing. It happened with my first born, just not nearly as much. I will do the oil scalp stimulation.
User :   yes, I have followed what you have said
Doctor :   yes, what your OB explained is right, you will get back the growth
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   no, thank you, i appreciate your time
Doctor :   please get back to me if you have further queries.
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
User :   i will and thanks, have a good day
Doctor :   wish you the same. take care.
