User :   Hello, My six year old son has come down with a fever today. His 1 year old brother had a fever as well this week, I took him to the dr. and was told it was probably a virus and he is now better. Anyway, my six year olds fever is about 104, Motrin will keep it at bay for about 2 hours then it comes back. He has vomited once. What I am worried about is that he is complaining of pain in his lower left abdomen. It must not be too severe as he is sleeping now. However, I worry about everything and think the worst! Do I need to worry about the fever much? And what to do about the abdominal pain??
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Dr here
User :   hello
Doctor :   Let me read your query.
Doctor :   Since how long is your child having fever?
User :   Just since this morning
Doctor :   Since how long is he complaining of pain abdomen?
User :   He mentioned it once this afternoon. Then he didn't say anything about it until a bit ago when I was checking on him
Doctor :   Is there any symptom other than which you have mentioned?
User :   No not reallly, a bit of a runny nose. That's it.
Doctor :   Like cold, cough, sore throat
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Fever can be due to various reasons as viral, bacterial or environmental
Doctor :   Also sometimes it is a protective mechanism of the body.
Doctor :   1)Sponge your child down with tepid water if he is uncomfortably hot and sweaty or if the fever goes above 103/104°
Doctor :   2_Give him steam inhalation 3 to 4 times a day
Doctor :   3)Give plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration
User :   So the abdominal pain is most likely not serious?
Doctor :   If the fever is caused due to viral infection it will be subsided in 3 to 4 days.
Doctor :   Continue Motrin.
Doctor :   If the child develops any further symptom and has increased abdominal pain then get him examined and investigated.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Also if the fever does not subside in 5 days and is continuous then go to your treating doc.
Doctor :   The child may also feel very weak at this time due to viral fever so give him proper diet and let him have adequate rest.
User :   ok thanks
Doctor :   Is there anything else you would like to know?
User :   at what temp would i have to take him to the ER?
Doctor :   If it increases above 103 and is also not controlled by Motrin and sponge
User :   ok
User :   thank you
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me, bye for now.
