User :   hi doc, here is the case.. on march 31 i am doing rubbing with my girlfriend and she took a plan b in the same day.. on april 8 she began to have a little bleeding, then on 14 april she get a lot of bleeding which is similiar to her menstruation. the period last to 5 days until 19 april. Then I started to have another sexual intercourse, this time is not only rubbing, we used condoms and have sexual intercourse on 25 april..i am not sure with the condom, so we used plan b one step again this time. then after that my gf start to get her period 3 days earlier than expected that is today on 9 may. i am wondering if this is heavy bleeding?or it is her period?same for the last month, is it heavy bleeding because of plan b?or period?
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   hi doc
User :   hi
Doctor :   Let me read your query
User :   ok
Doctor :   Yes, it could probably be due to Plan B and is commonly expected
Doctor :   and the successive doses of the same may exaggerate the effects this time
User :   is it period
Doctor :   The side effects get added up when taken consecutively
User :   or is it plan b bleeding?
Doctor :   Yes, it is period
Doctor :   and this happens
User :   however
User :   i am concern of there is case like plan b heavy bleeding
User :   which is similiar to period
User :   some people also say that bleeding after taking plan b is not period
Doctor :   yes , the most common side effect of plan b is heavy bleeding
Doctor :   it is expected
User :   heavy bleeding?or heavier menstrual bleeding?
Doctor :   it is heavy bleeding in the form of cycles
Doctor :   it is nothing but menstrual bleeding
User :   there is spotting or bleeding after taking plan b right
Doctor :   which is heavier than ususal
Doctor :   plan b can cause any of the symptoms , it can be spotting , heavy bleeding , no bleeding, early or delayed cycles
User :   so there is no possiblity of it is bleeding cause by the plan b
Doctor :   yes
User :   right. so what i am curious is how do you differentiate the heavy bleeding cause by plan b, and period
Doctor :   one cannot differentiate them
User :   i mean how do i know, this is not bleeding by plan b but this is the period
Doctor :   it is the menstrual bleeding itself
Doctor :   you need not have to know whether it is actual cycle or due to plan b
Doctor :   there is no way that it can be differentiated
User :   what about spotting? it is also period?
Doctor :   any bleeding after plan b , is considered as cycles , if it is not spotting
User :   oh
Doctor :   spotting is not cycles, it is the intermenstrual bleeding
User :   but however there is case like the bleeding only last for one day
Doctor :   it happens between 2 cycles
User :   and it is also small amount
User :   before my gf have her period today
Doctor :   if bleeding lasts only for a day . it is not considered a cycle
User :   she bleed a little in the last 3 day
Doctor :   if it is for 3 days then it is a cycle
User :   then today she got a lot of leeding
User :   *bleeding
User :   which i thought it was a period
Doctor :   irregular bleeding , lesser amounts of bleeding are also common with plan b
Doctor :   do not worry
Doctor :   just be watchful
Doctor :   i expected her cycles to be normal from next month
Doctor :   if the periods get heavier and do not stop at all then see a doctor , which i do not expect them to happen
User :   it is there still any possibility of pregnancy?
Doctor :   no there is no possibility of pregnancy
Doctor :   as plan b is very effective and least chances of failure
User :   doc, i am still thinking that
User :   plan b can cause some bleeding and irregular bleeding
Doctor :   yes it can cause
User :   how do you think that the bleeding can be considered as cycles
Doctor :   let me explain again
Doctor :   if there is a bleeding, that is on egets bleeding which is more than spotting and continues for more than 2 days , it is taken as cycles
Doctor :   as i told you plan b is a hormonal pill and will cause changes in the cycle pattern
User :   if there is bleeding
User :   there is no more chance of prgnancy?
Doctor :   yes , there is no chance of pregnancy if there has been good amount of bleeding for more than 2 days
User :   however what if it is not bleeding, but spotiing for 3 days
Doctor :   and when she has taken plan b at the right time , there is no need to worry about pregnancy irrespective of whether bleeding occurs early or late as long as she gets the cycles
User :   so you said that any bleeding last more than 2 days can be considered as cycle?
Doctor :   bleeding or spotting is not an indication for pregnancy , if the plan b has been taken within 72 hrs of intercourse we consider it is safe for not getting pregnant
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   we do not judge pregnancy based on spotting
Doctor :   if she misses her cycles , then we doubt about pregnancy which is not so in her case
User :   i thought the bleeding by plan b is not a menstruation?
Doctor :   it is a side effect if it is spotting
Doctor :   and if it lasts longer we can say that her cycles got pre poned due to the pill effect
User :   oh if it is heavy bleeding then it is a period?
User :   pre poned means earlier?
Doctor :   as it would be difficult to say whether it is a cycle or a side effect
Doctor :   i mean the cycles have shifted earler than expected dates due to hormonal side effects
User :   now you said is it difficult to say
User :   then what it is
Doctor :   see, it can be the periods which begin earlier than expected
Doctor :   in such a case it is taken as the cycle itself
Doctor :   if it is spotting or bleeding just for a day , it is a side effect
Doctor :   in both ways this does not indicate a pregnancy
Doctor :   if you are doubtful about plan b you may ask her to take the urine pregnancy test
