User :   I got a fasting glucose and A1C tests done a few days ago.
My lab results said that fasting glucose was 73 mg/dl, A1C of 5.7% with mean glucose of 104.

My questions are as below:
1) A lot websites on internet including WWW.WWWW.WW say that 5.1 % A1C corresponds to a mean glucose level of about 100. My lab says 5.7 % is 104. Is this an error in lab results? It doesn't make sense.

2)Is 5.7% meaning I am pre-diabetic. A lot of websites say that A1c of 5.7% to 6.4% is prediabetic?

Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you?
Doctor :   Let me read this
Doctor :   I am
User :   I have asked a couple of questions relating to my recent results in the first para by me
User :   Hi
Doctor :   The information on websites is only for your knowledge
Doctor :   and not perfect
User :   Ok
Doctor :   Even we doctors calculate Av. Bl sugar as HbA1C * 28
Doctor :   Most often the Average blood sugar is a calculated part
Doctor :   So do not give much importance to it
User :   Ok. So each lab uses its own formula?
Doctor :   perfect
Doctor :   Now coming to your second question
User :   But I did find that Nathan's formula makes 5.7% about 104
User :   ok
Doctor :   HbA1C is not Ok
Doctor :   It is not in prediabetic range
Doctor :   The average blood sugar should be less than 110 to be normal
User :   it says I am average 104
Doctor :   Now let me know your age, height and weight
User :   i am 45, 150 lbs and 5'10"
Doctor :   Did you check your BMI?
User :   I think about 21.7 or so
Doctor :   Do you have family history of Diabetes or High BP?
User :   no diabetes
Doctor :   Did you check your BP in the recent times?
User :   my Mom has high bp since age 67
User :   yes
User :   i was 112/72 today at the doc's office
User :   and pulse rate was 62
Doctor :   Ok

Doctor :   That is fine
Doctor :   I hope you lead a healthy active lifestyle with exercise
User :   so you say 5.7% A1c is not pre-diabetic?
Doctor :   No
User :   So I should not worry about 5.7%
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   Keep checking it once every 6 months
User :   ok great. it seems the calculated part is not a accurate measure since different labs interpret it differently
User :   normally when i test 2 hours after meal i am near about 95 to 105
Doctor :   Fine
User :   using home testing of blood sugar
Doctor :   But you have to lead a active lifestyle
Doctor :   every day exercise is must for you
User :   how many minutes a day: 15 to 20
Doctor :   20 to 30 minutes
User :   ok. so according to you i am prediabetic?
User :   sorry i am NOT. right?
Doctor :   Yes
User :   ok great
Doctor :   Some studies say less than 5.5% is normal
Doctor :   So do not fear
User :   i think exercise will help reduce a1c further
User :   so studies are not always used
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   Exercise helps to bring it down further
