Having problem with ears. Feels to have blocked ear. What could be the cause? - Online Doctor Chats
How are you?
I had a concern with my ears feeling blocked sometimes
I'm quite good..
Since when do you have this feeling?
it's been there since past 7-8 years
Is there any associated hearing loss?
Do you feel you can hear less from one ear?
yes i do, i feel i can hear less from my left ear
Is there any fluid coming out from a ear?
but it's only when i'm listening to music with earphones.
Is your nose blocked?
No, it isn't..
What about any fluid coming from the ear?
no, i do not have fluid coming from XXXXXXX ear
There are 2 possibilities XXXXXXX
It can be impacted wax
or it can be Eustachian tube dysfunction
These 2 can be differentiated only with an examination
Eustachian tube dysfunction means that the tube connecting the nose and the ear
is not functioning very well
should I visit an ENT specialist?
apart from that
In this , you first inhale
and then exhale with your nostrils closed and mouth shut
So you push the ear out towards your ears
Yes, I practise it usually
Does it help?
i didn't know about the particular technique
but since i feel my ears blocked, i do that since it unblocks my ears
In all probability then its eustachian tube dysfunction
You should take steam
and see an ENT specialist
it was just out like a workaround
since the drugs which are required are prescription
and they need an examination
Do you fly often?
no, i do not fly often
Thats it I guess
Will the prescriptions cure it completely? or will I have to take the prescription regularly?
They will not
What I suggest is you take steam
Ok. with normal water, right?
and practice this valsalva
that should do
but see an ENT
we may need to remove the wax
Is it since I have the feeling that i hear less from one ear?
Even eustachian tube dysfunction can lead to that
but wax is something you cant rule out
we need an exam for that
I'll visit an ENT very soon.
Thank you very much Dr XXXXXXX
