Having diabetes. Chances of passing it to offspring? - Online Doctor Chats
How can I help you?
have one query about diabetes
my husband has diabetes...what steps should i take to prevent it to go to my son
May I know your husband's age?
he is just 4 yrd..but have heard abt children getting diabetes now
his father had this
Let me explain to you.
Diabetes is of 2 types.
Type 1 and 2
There are high chances of genetic transmission if the diabetes is type 1.
The chances are far less in a type 2 diabetes.
So based on the what you say, there is a small risk of your offspring
However various other factors including the type of diabetes your husband has will decide the chances of occurrence.
Hope you have followed?
yes thanks...a releif for me...also tell me can my husband have fish and egg
Fish and egg white can be consumed.
They won't affect his blood sugars.
no..but his tryglycericides level has increased based on last week tests
it was 222
Restrict the yolk part of egg.
Rest he can have.
ok he anyways doent have much of nonveg
That will be fine.
so what is the solution to make these levels a bit lower
Check his weight and make sure he is in ideal weight limits.
May I know is current height and weight?
he is 74 kgs with height of 5 7
he does excersise on cross trainer at home as well..atleast 2-3 days in a week..
He is marginally over weight.
Ideally his weight should be between 60 to 70.
Around 65 would be the best weight for his height.
Probably he needs to do some changes in his diet and go for brisk walk instead of cross trainer.
Let me put across in simple terms.
1. His diet should contain lots of fibre and starchy XXXXXXX food.
from which food will he get that
but doctor said not to have potatoes
In addition plenty of vegetables in diets.
I apologize potatoes need to be restricted.
Plenty of fluid - atleast 6-8 litres of water a day.
have heard abt omega 3 which is useful in diabetes
All these dietary products needs to be spread across his breakfast, lunch and dinner.
They make him full but reduce his sugar and weight too.
2. For exercise, cross bars have not much effect on weight reduction.
Instead ask him to go for brisk walk, thread mill.
Cycling and swimming are alternative choice of exercise.
All these will reduce both his sugar and triglyceride.
Omega 3 are supplements have antioxidant effects which have protective roles in humans.
He can take them.
