User:my husband has diabetes...what steps should i take to prevent it to go to my son
Doctor:May I know your husband's age?
User:he is just 4 yrd..but have heard abt children getting diabetes now
User:his father had this
Doctor:Let me explain to you.
Doctor:Diabetes is of 2 types.
Doctor:Type 1 and 2
Doctor:There are high chances of genetic transmission if the diabetes is type 1.
Doctor:The chances are far less in a type 2 diabetes.
Doctor:So based on the what you say, there is a small risk of your offspring
Doctor:getting diabetes.
Doctor:However various other factors including the type of diabetes your husband has will decide the chances of occurrence.
Doctor:Hope you have followed?
User:yes thanks...a releif for me...also tell me can my husband have fish and egg
Doctor:Does he have cholesterol issues too?
Doctor:Fish and egg white can be consumed.
Doctor:They won't affect his blood sugars.
User:no..but his tryglycericides level has increased based on last week tests
User:it was 222
Doctor:Restrict the yolk part of egg.
Doctor:Rest he can have.
User:ok he anyways doent have much of nonveg
User:but occasionally
Doctor:That will be fine.
User:so what is the solution to make these levels a bit lower
Doctor:Check his weight and make sure he is in ideal weight limits.
Doctor:Maintaining a proper weight is both important to control sugar as well as triglyceride.
Doctor:May I know is current height and weight?
User:he is 74 kgs with height of 5 7
User:he does excersise on cross trainer at home as well..atleast 2-3 days in a week..
Doctor:He is marginally over weight.
Doctor:Ideally his weight should be between 60 to 70.
User:oh ok
Doctor:Around 65 would be the best weight for his height.
Doctor:Probably he needs to do some changes in his diet and go for brisk walk instead of cross trainer.
Doctor:Let me put across in simple terms.
Doctor:1. His diet should contain lots of fibre and starchy XXXXXXX food.
User:from which food will he get that
Doctor:Good examples of such diet are peas, corn, potatoes, dried beans, lentils, grain oats and so on.
User:but doctor said not to have potatoes
Doctor:In addition plenty of vegetables in diets.
Doctor:I apologize potatoes need to be restricted.
Doctor:Plenty of fluid - atleast 6-8 litres of water a day.
User:have heard abt omega 3 which is useful in diabetes
Doctor:All these dietary products needs to be spread across his breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Doctor:They make him full but reduce his sugar and weight too.
User:ok great
Doctor:2. For exercise, cross bars have not much effect on weight reduction.
Doctor:Instead ask him to go for brisk walk, thread mill.
Doctor:Cycling and swimming are alternative choice of exercise.
Doctor:All these will reduce both his sugar and triglyceride.
Doctor:Omega 3 are supplements have antioxidant effects which have protective roles in humans.
Doctor:He can take them.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:also can you recommend any good diabetologist in mumbai
User:preferably in subarbs
User:borivali-malad may be
Doctor:I do not have a personal reference. Perhaps this link can help you find a good diabetologist.
