Having BP from couple of years. Medicated on Eritel H. Do not want to be on medication lifelong. Suggestions? - Online Doctor Chats

User:I have a high BP problem
User:am on a tablet Eritel H for the last two yrs
User:but am only 36 yrs old, so I want to avoid the tablet for the rest of my life
User:pl. advice
Doctor:Have you checked your blood pressure lately?
User:its generally 130 / 90
User:but sometimes goes to 100/150 too

Doctor:Since when are you suffering with hypertension and for how long have you been on eritel H?
User:am extremely overweight - am ~ 25 kgs overweight

Doctor:Hypertension is a chronic medical condition which can be kept under control with medications and life style.
Doctor:Eritel H contents 2 antihypertensive drugs in it.
Doctor:Since despite 2 medications, the BP fluctuates above normal, I think this will not be the right time to stop medications.
Doctor:I would suggest you to continue medications for some more time.

Doctor:Take less salt diet.
Doctor:Exercise with an aim to reduce weight.
Doctor:Try yoga, meditation and other stress relieving measures.

User:is walking good ?
Doctor:Once your blood pressure remains constantly in the lower limits, your medications can be tapered gradually.
User:cause thats the only exercise I enjoy
Doctor:Brisk walking in a fresh environment for 30 - 45 minutes for 5 days a week is good enough to reduce weight and keep your pressures under control.
