Doctor:Good Morning
Doctor:Please proceed with your question
User:I have benign parotid gland tumor
User:below my right ear
Doctor:May I know your age?
User:i had consulted a surgeon last year , he said its fine to leave it as it is for another 5 years
User:as i am also unmarried , he suggested no to risk it now
Doctor:Was a biopsy done to confirm that it is benign?
User:ye FNAC
Doctor:Since when you were having the swelling?
User:over the year it has doubled in size
User:its little painful sometimes like when i have cold
User:sometimes when i turn
User:could you please suggest which is the best time to go for surgery
User:is there any other treatment for it other than surgery
Doctor:since it was diagnosed as benign, there should be nothing to worry
Doctor:But since it is increasing in size, surgery would be the right choice
User:but they say it might cause damage to facial nerves ,
User:which i am actiually scared about
Doctor:There are nerves which pass through the parotid gland.
Doctor:when the tumor keeps growing, it might put a pressure on the nerve
Doctor:Usually the tumor in salivary glands are pleomorphic adenomas
Doctor:As you said it is growing, you will have to go for a re-evaluation of the tumor
User:the previous year when i consulted the doctor said , it was pretty small , so the doctor said it would be difficul to perform surgery.. and its easier when it grows bigger
User:is this true
Doctor:Bigger tumors are easier to demarcate.
User:so what would be the ideal size until which i might not bother abt it
Doctor:It is not the ideal size that matters in your condition.
Doctor:Since it is growing, and you have discomfort, it is better to get checked again.
Doctor:Then the surgeon would be able to decide whether it can be operated now.
User:could you please suggest a hospital or specialist doctor in bangalore
Doctor:Where in Bangalore are you located?
User:near domlur( indiranagar)
