Doctor:Please proceed with your query.
User:his age is around 77 yrs and is usually in good health
User:recently he has complained about joint and back pain
User:he as requested for some tonics which could help him
User:the pain appears to be related to old age
Doctor:May I know which joints he is having pain in?
User:and back
Doctor:Ok. May I know his weight?
User:on the heavy side....I would think around over 80 kg
Doctor:Ok. Let me brief you regarding the conditions which may be present.
Doctor:The most common cause of back and joint pain in elderly are due to degenerative changes.
Doctor:Degenerative changes in the sense, the bone cells and cartilage cells start wearing out with age.
Doctor:This may cause rough surfaces in the joints.
Doctor:And that causes pain.
Doctor:Degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis etc can happen in the elderly.
User:i remember that he said that the pain is more in the mornings after waking up
Doctor:Ok. That gives an impression of degenerative changes.
Doctor:I can suggest you temporary measures to get relief.
Doctor:1. Tab. Calpol 650mg (Paracetamol) thrice daily to reduce pain.
Doctor:2. Tab. Shelcal 500 mg ( Calcium Supplements) twice daily
Doctor:These are temporary measures.
User:there are times when the pain is not severe
Doctor:He will need to consult an orthopaedic surgeon for a proper evaluation, diagnosi and treatment.
User:should he therefore take the tabs only when the pain is more - esp the Calpol?
Doctor:Yes. He can take Calpol when the pain is more.
User:i guess then that he can take Shelcal on a regular basis
Doctor:Shelcal can be taken regularly for a period of 2 weeks to 3 weeks.
Doctor:Hope I had been able to clear your doubts.
Doctor:Do you have any other concerns on which I can help you?
User:I have another query which is related to mental problems related to my cousin sister.. should I continue or will someone else address the query?

Doctor:There are certain things to remember in managing a psychiatric disorder.
User:guess she needs a change of environment and something to keep busy
Doctor:Firstly, medicines does not cure the disorder. It just prevents the aggrevation.
User:she has not been able to study ever since....and is not working...forgot to mention that she is now 40 yrs old
