Doctor :   Iam .Dr.Sanju
Doctor :   please post your query
User :   good afternoon doctor
Doctor :   Good afternoon

User :   my son who is three years old, has the habit of throwing up quite often.... atleast once a day.... what could be the cause for the same?
Doctor :   ok

Doctor :   can you explain in detail?
User :   when i consulted his pediatrician, they have advised me that it is because of a symptom called GER..... Gastro intestine Reflex.... grateful if u could share some info about the same
Doctor :   Is it GERD
Doctor :   Is he vomiting just after feeds?
Doctor :   is she having regular bowel movements?
Doctor :   are you there?
User :   s
Doctor :   ok
User :   he normally throws up within probably 1/2 - 1 hour of his feed....
User :   bowel movements are regular
User :   mostly once in the morning
Doctor :   It is common for infants to spit up after a meal
Doctor :   but frequent vomiting among infants may be caused by GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), the upward movement of stomach content, including acid, into the esophagus and sometimes into or out of the mouth.
Doctor :   Most of the time, reflux in infants is due to a poorly coordinated gastrointestinal tract.
Doctor :   ok
User :   how long will it take for the baby to over come this symptom
Doctor :   Many infants with the condition are otherwise healthy
Doctor :   Yes. Most babies outgrow infantile GERD
Doctor :   i cannot definitely say the time taken for that
Doctor :   is she on any medicines

Doctor :   he
User :   no
Doctor :   ok

User :   on an average by what age to the kids overcome this symptom
Doctor :   by like 5 years
Doctor :   Medicines that decrease intestinal gas or neutralize stomach acid (antacids) are considered safe
User :   so this is not a major cause for concern
Doctor :   However, reflux can occur in older children
Doctor :   No not at all
User :   any natural diet which will assist in helping nutralising the stomach acid
Doctor :   as this is a very common finding
Doctor :   increased milk has been assctd with that
Doctor :   In older children, the causes of GERD are often the same as those seen in adults.
Doctor :   Certain factors also may contribute to GERD, including: obesity, overeating, certain foods, some beverages, and specific medications.
Doctor :   dont give artificial drinks like coke etc
User :   so i should try and minimize the milk intake of the kid doctor?
User :   no doctor he is not into any of those artificial drink, choclates, ice creams ectc
Doctor :   yes you can increase the frequency and reduce the dose at a time
User :   ok doctor...
User :   thanks for your time and feedback
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with now?
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting..............
Doctor :   Bye for now..................
