User :   I had an STD test 3 months ago, I don't know how all inclusive it was but everything was negative. I had just started sleeping with someone (unprotected) and slept with him a few days after the test as well. I went and got tested a week ago and I have Gardnerella vaginalis and Corynebacterium. I have not had sex with anyone since him (3 months ago) is it possible to get these things any other way than through sex?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hi
Doctor :   Gardenerella is a sexually transmitted infection.
User :   That is always the case? The doctor gave me information that you could get it from wearing thongs, or not wiping correct or a ph inbalance
User :   He said I had BV?
Doctor :   And as far as Corynebacterium is concerned, there are different modes of transmission depending on the type of bacterium,
Doctor :   Imbalance in pH, increases the chances of genital infection.
User :   Could I have contracted it after the first test, by having sex with him again?
Doctor :   Let me explain that.
Doctor :   Gardenella organisms are commensals present in the genital region and do not cause any infections.
Doctor :   They can cause infection when the pH of the genital area is altered.
Doctor :   Sexual inter is one of the commonest cause for reducing the pH.
Doctor :   So its possible that you may have sustained this infection indirectly by a sexual intercourse.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   So it is not possible to get it any other way?
User :   And if I finish all the antibiotics they have given me, on Thursday can I safely have sex on Friday?
Doctor :   The chances of infection other than sexual mode is less.
User :   but not impossible
Doctor :   yes, rarely it happens by other modes explained by your doctor.
User :   And after the antibiotics are finished I can have sex without infecting my partner?
Doctor :   These infections are not as dangerous as compared to other ones.
Doctor :   Hence you can continue with the sexual intercourse.
Doctor :   Without any problems.
User :   Will the antibiotics affect my birth control
Doctor :   However to avoid such instances from happening again, I would suggest you to practise safe sex.
Doctor :   Yes, there are certain group of antibiotics that can affect birth control pills.
User :   even after the antibiotics are done?
Doctor :   No,
Doctor :   After stopping the antibiotics, your pills efficacy will normalise.
User :   ok Thank you for your help
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
